Hi,
If my car was going to answer to ANY name, it would be:
Well, Sh*t, THAT certainly didn't work!
Because those are the words that it's probably heard the most over the last 20 years!
Regards,
Alan

I can't quite make sense of this. If you don't think of your Vette as a female you're gay? It's not like you're having sex with it or marrying it....or are you?
You think more like I do. I've never humanized my Vettes although I do think of them as beasts.
I guess I have "genderized" mine, but as a male. Many times I've yelled "You son of a b!tch!"
This does start to make sense.
Very true. I've seen the same thing but, again, I fail to get the connection.
Not an adequate explanation but my favorite answer nonetheless.
Interesting. This may be getting towards the origin.
Alan, that's a mouthful! How does it respond when you say that? Please don't tell me it responds like a woman!
Oldgto, the writing you quoted almost brought me to tears. But I'm still not ever going to think of my 69 as a female.

Interesting.
I attempted to learn Spanish one time because of this really hot chic that worked with me at the beach and I remember a car in Spanish is el automobile which made it masculine.
Never did quite get how in some languages words can be male or female.
Never did learn Spanish , turns out the hot chic spoke much better English than she wanted the bosses to think.

I think the truth may have something to do with cars being feminine in the French language, as has been mentioned earlier. French has had a much bigger impact on American English than most people think, especially if you have ever served in the military. Camouflage, bivouac, enfilade, defilade, esprit, squad, platoon, battalion, brigade, infantry, cavalry, artillery, are all french words. Ships are almost universally referred to as "she".
Keep the shiny side up!

2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
99.9% of french words finishing by "ette" are feminine, that might help.
But I personally prefer the Ship-is-feminine-word theory, a Corvette is a kind of boat afterall.

Les, you had to bring it up. Just when I think there is sanity in the C3 world, something like this comes along. Most people would think C3 owners were just not wrapped right, but damn it can be fun.

I too refer to my cars by what the they are (year, model, color) also.
Maybe the female gender comes from male dating experiences. You know it's going to be memorable but you never know if it's going to be a positive or negative experience and sometimes it's even both.

That deserves a big
That's funny...but my wife is scared of my 69 and I've never seen a woman who she was scared of. I'm pretty sure if she had to assign a sex to it she'd go with male. I may just have to ask her that.
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that your Vette has an auto trans.
Ooooops, sorry.
I see my Vette as more of a buddy. We may not always see eye to eye but ultimately we have a good time together and we both enjoy the company of a good lady.
Now, that's an excellent question!
