I've Always Wondered- Why Do Some Folks Call Their Vette "She" Or "Her"?
#41
The wife dpesn't like it when I referr to the car as the "Red Head" but thinks it's funny that I tell people my GPS is a sexy redhead, infact she's the only woman I listen to(so I have been told)

I have never named any of my cars over the years. Generally, when referring to the corvettes, I will call it "The 70" or when talking about the 02 Z it is "The Z".

I don't name cars either, so the Vette is an "it"...I refer to "it" as the 68 or the Vette, although I sometimes refer to it as "the Pig" because it eats money like a pig, as well as a slew of other names that would earn me a perma-ban from the Forum if I even hinted at them here....

That is one take on it.
Plus someone brought up the "ship" aspect.
Like captains of sailing vessels we name our cars by female names for several reasons:
1. We love and respect them.
2. We miss them when we are not together
3. And they can be a beotch

Great question, Les. But you didn't set your sites high enough. There's some folks who refer to their Vette as 'Baby.' That pseudo-pedophilic nickname makes my skin crawl.
But getting back to the 'her' and 'she'. I'll wager that those who use those terms of endearment are looking at rubber bumper C3's with automatic shift transmissions. Yeah, I can sure see why those girlie, wussy names might fit.
I wonder if the guy who named his car Rosebud will stop by and add his 2 cents?

For me, it is easier to think of anything I am showering with this much love and attention as female. I have name her Christine, after a ex girl friend who was a money grubbing temperamental witch.
As for the girls, a good friend of mine has named her Mustang "Sally", so it is not a guys only thing. Of course, I have also named my pickup, ATV and JD riding mower, so maybe I am a weirdo on the fringe.

I'm not quite sure how to interpret this.

I can send you a link to a couple of studies that show men who are opposed to gayness are almost always suppressing their own same sex attractions.
Depends on the vehicle. My husband's 3/4 ton Dodge 2X2 is male and named Bader. My corvette is female but as with all my other cars I've never come up with a name that seems to fit.

I thought this was a C3 Corvette forums area?
Back to the subject of the thread - I should add to my previous post that my wife named her car - a female name. Guess it's not just a "guy thing"
