HELP!! 1981 Intermittent Start Problem
My Nephew has a 1981 with a 350 crate motor has a problem with starting. The starter doesn't turn intermittently. Hot or cold doesn't seem to matter. He can try it it won't start but a minute later it starts right up and runs great, hot or cold doesn't seem to effect it. He has replaced the starter and I bel;ieve the cables.
HELP!!! does any one have any ideas?

Race Director
clean the ground under the battery behind the seat to the frame......engines will seek a ground through various sources....ie, emergency brake, shifter cables, and brake and fuel lines

I had the same problem on my 81 and never could figure it out. I cleaned all grounds, traced wiring, new starter and still had problems. Finally just put in a push button and no more problems.

also check neutral safety switch on shifter. try shifting to neutral then start, next time it does it.

If none of these fix it use remote trigger starter, or jump solenoid on starter to see if it will start every time. If so start checking connections under dash see if loose. They are on steering column passenger side at lower end. There are 2 press them together and shove every wire in as far as it will go. After 30 years of big feet kicking and bubba pulling them they come loose.
