You really need to replace both hoses when you do a major rebuild. The "return" line does not have much pressure on it (that hose has a clamp on the pump-end instead of a fitting), but it can still fail or leak when it gets old. Go to a local parts store to buy one, rather than to pay shipping costs on one hose.

All other hoses looked fine, flex good and not cracking. Guess work was done before and replaced what was getting old. And I couldn't get from local parts store, they didn't stock the return hose, only one they has was with 2 fittings not fitting and clamp.

Well good news, it works now, bleed system, turned car on and wheel went to one side. Adjusted the nut on control valve to center steering, set car down and wheels easy to turn once again. Sadly all my other hoses seem to be leaking and the control valve gasket leaking. Minor just need to open it and put some rtv on gasket and that's easy fix. Although video said if I have gasket/o ring combo won't need it but seems like I do, not bother, fix it when hose kit comes in. Thanks for the help, was fun and interesting.

But forewarning all guides I read didn't say how to put pump back together except the pressure plates, not piece in between. And ensure, to me this was common sense, there are little teeth in pump, one side flat, one side round, round side faces out towards the ring.

Well updated. Finally got the new hoses in thanks to Willcox (cheapest power steering hose set by $20) and my budget. Opened up the control valve again and applied RTV on both the body and the gasket/spacer. Only put a thin layer on since it only needs a little bit and put it all back together. Back in the car with new hoses, also put thread tape on the hoses to ensure tight seal, and no more leaks. Heres the pictures on finished:

Now onto the brakes, although i put new master cylinder and new calipers and hoses but when its cool out the pedal goes to the floor again. Given today is first day of fall won't be long till i garage it till spring.

Willcox,

Can't wait for that one. My headlights go down, but not up (only manually). I can hear a hissing noise, but don't have an assistant to help me just now. No problem, I just don't use it at night.

Regards from Down Under.

sounds like problem with either the actuator or the valve. the valve is located on the front below where the hood meets the top body. these arent cheap. i cant remember which years had one valve and which had two valves but im guessing thats where your problem is. since you can hear hissing sound says its on the front. vacuum to front seems good since they go down but not up. I can get picture for you later of the valves

heres pictures, yellow arrows are the valves and red arrow points to front of car.
