FYI you don't have to go the whole tdc route to remove the intake.
Just make a note of where the rotor and vac advance is pointing. Do not turn the engine over, then reinstall the dist. to exactly the same place. Timing should be pretty close. You can then retime it as needed.

Not sure it was totally clear in this thread about the idler pulley being a factory item or aftermarket and why someone cant find their timing tab:
Idler pulleys are not aftermarket but used in different engine configs depending on A/C and air pump combinations.
The reason you cant see the timing tab and you have an idler pulley is that unfortunately you need to remove the idler pulley to reveal the timing tab and time the car. I don’t know of any ‘work-arounds’ to not have to do this. (If anyone has found a way around removing the idler pulley: please let us know)

Hope that is clear/er.

(Rebooted this thread since I had to learn this lesson and had a hard time finding the answers that are strewn throughout this thread but not consolidated into one ANSWER.)

I have the same engine, with power steering,it’s down there on the timing chain cover. It is a bear to see.
.I have pics but they probably won’t help you. If you want I will look for them for you.
