Default Is this normal or broken?

Hello,
First, my speedometer works, but seems to "float" around rather than move steadily. It has about a 5 mph wobble. Thoughts?

Second: My tachometer also works, but...when I turn the car off the tach goes from its idle speed to zero (like it should) but then floats up to about 15k after the car is off and stops there. Seems fine when I drive it though. Any ideas what this is?

Thank you.

Shows '79 in his stats. The floating Tach needle is normal. This started around '77 I believe. My '77 has done it since new. mike...

Normal man for an oldie. The tach is a floater when off since about 1975 when the HEI showed up, I want to say. I have a 1976 that floats, my 1977 from a previous life floated, and my 1970 does not at all. Once the car is off you can turn the key back over to the last position before ignition and the tach will zero out again.

The speedo bounce is also "normal" for an older Corvette, in the sense that it is a function of age. You can sometimes lessen it by lubricating the speedo cable, etc. All three of my Corvettes have had varying degrees of it. The 1977 was super bouncy, the other two just a tiny bit at low speeds...like under 20 mph.

I have a '79 and my speedo bounces also. I is most obvious at low speed, goes away, then gets bouncy again over 70 mph. It bounced to 105 one time, so I say that is the fastest i have gone (could have only been 95).
