Default Clock clock clock Hunting down the phantom knock.

Well I'm still at this. Seeing all the troubles other forum members have had with intake manifold installs it's no surprise that since mine went easily I have to pull it for a completely unrelated problem. This gives me another chance at screwing up the install.

Anyway, enough complaining. I've removed the intake and examined the lifters and pushrods for the entire passenger bank. Everything was flawless. Next step is to remove (maybe even replace) the fuel pump to try to see if the pump or pushrod could be damaged. After that, I'm pulling the head hoping to find a trouble with the valves.

I'm going to come right out and admit it. I'm grasping at straws guys.

Oil press spec is 40# at 2000 RPM I get that when cold but at normal temp (180) it drops to around 37.

Sound only happens when warm.

Any suggestions?

Still 37# at 2000 RPM when warm? Your ok then , rule of thumb is 10# of oil pressure for every 1000 RPM. Before stripping down the engine use a stethescope(sp?) of long screwdriver against your ear and see if you can determine where the knock is coming from, high/low , back/front of the engine.
Good Luck

It was inconclusive. I could tell it was coming from the #2 cylinder area but up or down I couldn't discern a difference. :nonod:

This is a long shot! There are two bolt holes on the front of the block in front of the fuel pump. Perhaps one of the bolts is too long interfering with the push rod?

It's a long shot. I would think it would make noise all of the time. Not just when it's warm. But, I learned over the years strange things do happen.

Thank you. I just got back from the garage and I've, unfortunately, found the cause.

I'm going to post the details in a seperate post in a moment.
