Need Opinions: LS3/4L65E Swap or LS3/RS500
So I'm narrowing my options down. I'm going all in with the LS3 swap. As I've research it, there's many ways to go.
One option I've found is the GM Performance Connect & Cruise package.
http://paceperformance.com/i-8576042...65e-trans.html
It combines the LS3 (430 HP) + ECU system + 4L65E Tranny + Tranny Controler, and is setup for a restomod install. $ 10,569, less a $500 rebate if you order by 1/31/13.
Since my car is a auto / 3.08 rear end, this is a great match and minimizes installation challenges.
If I go with a manual setup, my cost goes up by about 3k. I lose the 500 rebate, and then I have to buy all the main parts separate, add the conversion cost from auto to manual, and lose the GM packaged savings.
I need opinions on which way to go....I can't decide. Please don't tell me I can do it cheaper by finding a used engine and rebuilding it. I've ruled that option out. I want new with warranty.

Well I can say if you go with the LS3 and 4l60e you shouldn't be disappointed. My setup is an LS2 (402 ci) with a 4 l70e and I love it. The difference between what you are looking at and what I have created is yours will be cheaper and a much simpler swap than mine with the package being complete with not a whole lot of work in wiring and tuning, your setup will work right out of the crate, can't really beat that for 10 grand. I say go for it, unless you are hung up on using a manual trans.
I have had my swap done for a few months now and love it every time I take it out, I return with a huge smile on my face with no regrets of how much money I have wrapped up in it, which is far more than 10 grand.
I say go for the GM package and enjoy.

You apparently don't want to create just a drag race car, or you wouldn't be keeping the 3.08 rear gear. What you have will be very nice and will have plenty of acceleration, anyway.
The only question is "Do you want to shift gears or not?" The auto tranny will be just as quick as the manual box...maybe quicker, if you aren't a pro at shifting gears.

That is a nice package, you should be very happy with it. It all comes down to wanting to shift gears or not. I enjoy the feeling of control and the driving experience of a manual. The biggest hassle with a late model manual is setting up the hydraulics. If you really want an easier swap, stay automatic. The engine looks like it comes with a F body oil pan, and C6 exhaust manifolds. Both should work if you wanted, I am running the same manifolds. Looks like the main decision you will need to make is what front accessory mount system to use.

Cory...voice of reason. That is exactly what I needed to hear.
5 years ago I was in the process of putting a new motor in my C2. I wanted to go with a zz383, but settled for a performance enhanced zz4. I saved about 2k. I've regretted that decision every since. I'm not sure would be happier, but I always come back to the question, I should have done it.
Thanks,
Now I'm off to looking at the RS500 or the new SS700.

Best of luck, can't wait to see your build.

Check on delivery times for the RS trans, I hear you'll be waiting.
I love manuals, had a newly rebuilt 3.08 rear and picked up a 400hp 6.0 LQ9. I was worried about the 0.63 OD on most trans with a 3.08 rear. I went with a Richmond 6 speed with 3.28 1st, 0.76 6th gear. Works great, but the LS motors have such a great torque range, the 0.63 OD would have been OK.

I talked with Josh at Custom Image Corvettes, and he's suggesting I go with a T56. I'm looking at all options.
And he's got just about everything I need to do the entire swap!!!

I hope you're aware a T56 with a 0.50 6th gear will be useless with a 3.08 rear.Also the 2.66 1st gear with a 3.08 wont be great. Plan on a diff change in the 3.4-3.7 range.

Good idea working with Josh at Custom Image, as can help you with any kind of swap. If going all out like you're planning, probably go 6L65/80 6 speed auto or T56 manual. You're gonna need some floor tunnel mods for these though. The 6 speed auto's have a 4.05 1st, and as mentioned, the T56 a 0.50 od 6th. I've had two late model Vette's with T56's and 3.42 axles, and 6th has no power at all. Almost econo car highway fuel milage though.

I had an 06 GTO LS2 w/ t56; it was fine in 6th gear. My complaints were: no speed shifting, especially between 2nd and 3rd; and too many gears. I know that sounds odd; but racing you use 3, maybe 4 gears - gears 1-4, or 2-4.... Never did I get into 5th or 6th. On a street car with 3.08 gears, IMO 5 would be just right. 1-3 for around town, 2-4 for racing, and 5 for cruising.... nice thing about a transmission if it doesn't have "power" in a gear, you can downshift
I just read about the newest Keisler box - that looks like the cat's pajamas. Best part, the crate E-rod LS3, without transmission is 8500 delivered, and the Keisler trans is 3500.... still in the same ballpark as far as price.
