Finally Up And Running!
Ok, So after my '77 quit because the cap & rotor barfed I pulled the distributor and replaced the pickup coil. I had my newly rebuilt distributor close enough w/ the marks on the rotor, distributor and manifold for the engine to start right away. We could not see any timing marks at all and it was then that I discovered my damper had moved and was rubbing against the timing cover. While I waited for my new damper to arrive ( none available locally ) I discovered my car was running cleanly but had all the power of a 4 cylinder despite my new cap, coil, rotor, pickup coil, and plugs and wires, and I almost forgot about the new ignition module ! I was hoping it was just the timing as I had no idea where it was set! I finally installed the new damper tonite and found the timing to be 4* BTDC after the new distributor install. I set it to 12 degrees BTDC. The car is running great and the throttle response is better then its ever been since I owned it. I can get just the slightest amount of detonation if I lug it down to about 1500 RPM in fourth gear and floor it but none at all under any normal driving conditions. I may try some 89 or 93 octane but that may have to wait for spring since the forecast is for winter weather very soon! I had to get my fun in tonite just in case the world does end tomorrow !!
