Default Carburetor Leak. HELP!!

After a bleeding session for my PS resulted in rather violent front end shaking, the QJet on my stock '76 began to flood and leak fuel. Would not idle and could only keep it running by gunning it. Figured some of that 26 yrs of dirt had shaken loose and screwed up the carb so bought THE book, THE kit and some carb cleaner. Did the rebuild on the carb, except the choke. Roe seemed to suggest if you don't have a problem with the choke don't mess with it.

Started right up (WOW), took it for a test ride and all was well until I went WOT, then it flooded out and did the same thing as before. Fuel appears to leaking from the gasket between the throttle body and the Float bowl on the linkage side. Did I miss something inside the carb or do you guys think its the choke? Really don't want to spring for a rebuilt unit if I don't have too. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Let your engine idle in the driveway until warm. Take a look at the choke plate on the primaries. The choke should be fully open. If it is - forget it.

The fuel is leaking because toooo much gas is in the carb. Bet the float, needle and seat are not shutting off the flow of gas. Did you set the float level after putting in the new needle and seat? Did you put that little clip on the float arm that holds the needle to the float? Did you put back that little shiny ball in the hole with the screw with the small shaft on the end of it next to the accelerator pump? Try to picture these things in your mind. Hope these ideas help.

Started the car this afternoon, started right up without the need to choke it or pump the gas pedal. Let it run at fast idle for a couple of minutes and then kicked it down. Choke was wide open and no gas running out the side. Started it and let it run several times, reved it a few times but was afraid to hold the throttle open for long (afraid picken up engine parts from my driveway would be my next project). Didn't road test it but ran fine in the driveway.

I replaced all those little parts and leveled the float, although this was the part I was least sure about. Also wondered if the float may not be bad. I had shut the fuel off a couple of days before working on the carb so it had plenty of time to dry out if it did have a leak. But...if it was a bad or misalligned float wouldn't it give me problems at all speeds, including idle, as opposed to just giving me a problem after letting off from WOT???? And shouldn't it start to flood as soon as I unpinch the fuel line?

Tks again.

It sounds to me like the fuel pump is pushing the float valve open. Lower the float to correct this condition. The fuel pump will create more pressure at higher RPMs which would cause a leak only at higher speeds. Did you replace the fuel filter when you rebuilt the carb? Not all kits contain a new filter. It could also leak if the power piston has lost it's seal (this is common)...was there anything on the carb that didn't match the pictures in the rebuild kit?

There were a few things in the kit that didn't match the carb, but not the other way around. Think I'll just spring for a new float and give that a shot. Probably won't get to it till eary next week. Thanks for your help.
