I like people who are always trying new things. I agree that it would look good with a stripe. Good job getting done in two days! I've been thinking about CAI options for two years now and still not sure how I want to do. I'm thinking of doing something similar to the stock setup, but with 14" filter, drop base and modified to fit with RPM intake. I just need to get the cardboard and fiber cloth out and start creating.

I had a different approach to cold air intake on my '79. I went with cowl induction. You just have to be willing to cut a hole in your cowl. I was, since I can always fill it if I ever wanted to change it back(I don't think so!). It fits under the stock hood (1/4" clearance) and works Great - all for under $170! I have solid motor mounts, so engine movement isn't a problem. I have an Edelbrock carb, Performer RPM manifold. I used all Spectre parts - polished aluminum 4 inch system - capable of over 900 cfm flow. Parts: #9849 4" plenum, #9604 4" velocity stack, #9709 4" x 4" tube, #9749 4" 45 degree elbow, #9776 4" couplers(3), #4208 low profile air cleaner nut. A real increase in acceleration vs. my previous Edelbrock foam carb-top filter. I use a SS screen filter, between the velocity stack and straight tube, but you could place a foam one somewhere in the system. I had no idea it would work as well as it does, especially when the engine gets warm! BIG Power increase!
Here is a view of it now:

And this is what it replaced:

The entire install took about one hour, including cutting a 4.5" hole in the cowl. It works perfectly in my 1979, but since Corvettes changed hood/cowl setups over the years, you will have to do your own measuring to be sure it will fit under your hood. Specter has complete dimensions listed on their site for all of the components. Have fun designing your own system!
