Default need some help locating a part

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of re-assembling the rear suspension of my '81 and I ran into a problem, I believe I'm missing some spacers that hold the rear composite spring to the differential, I've got 2 aluminum spacers, 1 spacer that kind of resembles compressed cardboard and the lower steel mounting plate and bolts, but when I put all this back together there is too much empty room around the spring. it seems like I may be missing a couple spacers (maybe Rubber) that go around the spring itself but I don't remember what it looked like when I took it apart.

I've got an assembly manual but it doesn't show this area in any detail. non of the parts houses show anything on their sites.

can someone please post a picture of a similar car that shows the spring mount area in detail?? also, if you know what I'm talking about can you tell me where I can find them (they ARE NOT in my garage), I found alot of other stuff I forgot about but not the spring cushions

Yes Sir; I happen to have a complete set up hanging in my parts dept. From the bottom up to the rear end. 1. Lower steel mounting plate, 2. aluminum spacer, 3. Rubber mount, 4. Spring, 5. Rubber mount, 6. Aluminum spacer, 7. Fiber ( compressed Cardboard ) spacer. 8. Rear end housing. I Bought a set of Rubber mounts from Muskegon Brake Tech Support, 1- 231-733-0874 They make almost the same looking spring, that the factory made, & you can adapt the rubber mounts that they have, to your existing set-up, These are what you are missing. No One I could find sells the OEM mount rubbers. I bought a new spring & set up from Vette Brakes & products Co. which is different set up, & doesn't set as high as Muskegon's spring. Hope this helps, Lots of luck, Have a Ball. Gene

thanks a bunch. from what I'm reading, these things tend to go back due to the heat from the exhaust, it seems like someone would have them available somewhere.

Oh yes, Bolt the heat shield on the bottom of the spring before you run the exhaust. If you don't have the heat shield, buy one with the mount rubbers,. they sell one that has to be bolted on with the three bolts that hold the spring. The OEM ones bolt on after the spring is bolted on. Sorry I forgot to mention this before. Have a great day. Gene
