Default You've heard of the LJ-2 engine option for 1970.....right?

That's correct..........LJ-2........1970 Corvette.

454c.i..........3x2bbl carbs.........460hp.

My 16 year-old son got me an amazing book for Father's Day. The above surprise was one of many surprises contained within. No, the LJ-2 never made it to production, but I have a press photo of it.......yes 3x2bbl......yes air cleaner decal showing 460hp. I may even get around to scanning and posting. :D

Meanwhile, you might want to ask yourself what the planned LT-2 engine was going to be. Here's a hint......you know the famous LS-7 454-465hp that never actually made it to production in 1970? Well, the LT-2 was another giant leap up from even that!

Imagine what could have been if Zora had been turned loose. :smash: :smash:

More soon.

I think there is an ad floating around for the 1970 vette advertising 460 hp. They actually advertised it but never delivered it! bummer! :( MJ

Oh, the LT-2 I referred to above.......very interesting.....imagine a 454 ZL-1. :smash:

That's right.....an all aluminum 454 that was actually driven in proving grounds tests by the automotive press in 1969.......and they didn't even know what they were driving.  Every member of the press who drove it achieved the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds flat "with ease". A Chevy driver ran it to a 10.6 sec 1/4 at 132 mph.

More soon.......maybe even photos of the actual car. Hint......the same car was used to demonstrate the 1969 ZL-1 to the press a year earlier. No, it's not white or yellow.

You younger guys reading this stuff........man did you miss some amazing days. :D

"Amazing days" . . . you mean like my '63 Falcon with the 170 ci "Super Six." Or my '72 Beetle with 60 hp (gross).

Sounds like a good book to read. Mike Mueller has written several Corvette books, and is very knowledgable when it comes to the old Vettes. That 454 ZL-1 you are talking about would be one bad, and serious Vette. I couldn't imagine

"Tom Langden and Gib Hufstader built an orange 1969 coupe to especially impress journalists at the 1969 (late summer 1968) new car introductions. It returned in slightly different form in 1970 (late summer 1969). The first year it showcased a ZL-1 427 V-8. In 1970, it was powered by the LT-2, the 454-c.i. all aluminum derivative of the ZL-1. With wide-open headers, slicks, and a high-stall Turbo Hydra-Matic, the car could bolt through the quarter-mile in nearly 10.5 seconds."

"Anyone strapped into that orange Corvette on that first summer day in 1968 (with the ZL-1 on board) came away from the experience ecstatic. Running 11-flat through the quarter-mile at about 127 mph was as easy as stomping on the go-pedal and pointing the high-rising hood in the right direction. Even quicker runs were posted by applying a little street-racer know-how. "We were revving it up to 6,000 (rpm) then dumping it into gear," recalled Clift with a chuckle. "It took off like a striped-butt ape." The best time of the day read 10.89 seconds at 130 mph. Ten-eighty-nine wasn't just fast, it was ridiculous. Ridiculously easy."

"The fact that almost anybody who knows how to drive could jump in and duplicate this run after run may be the most shattering aspect of all," concluded a Motor Trend report entitled, "The 10-second Trip".

I bet those reporters had a blast that day.
Has anyone heard anything on Chevy bringing back the 427 in a vette. I seen it , I think, on Motor Trends, it was a 427 Corvette that packed over 700 HP. I was just wondering if there is an news to this, or even if it was real, That would be one awsome vette.

I have read of bored and stroked LS-1's to 427 Cid's but it is an aftermarket tuner that is doing it. They actually resleeve the LS-1 block for the bigger cubes...very  I don't think Chevy will be doing this though unless they get their head out of their a~~'s and start with some of the retro styling that other car companies have been doing the past few years.

And before the usual naysayers (usually non-Corvette owners but not always) find this thread....

I purchased an incredible GM Chevrolet binder having '53-'80 Corvette part #'s, power teams, colors, factory installation drawings, GM option lists, etc, etc!!! I have barely put the book down yet!!! The info in it is unbelievable, even though some info was entered in it such as it does not even list a '67 or '68 L-88!!! Does show '69 L-88 and also a "465HP" 454 with 12.25 compression and single four barrel carb only available with M-22 transmission. It was $50 well spent!!! :yesnod:

More hints at the amazing, but never released LS-7. They were going with the option code on the hood rather than the cubic displacement numbers.

Can we please go back and do 1970 all over again (but get it right this time)? :D
