Sure would be nice to bolt them up while the motor's out

I read Hooker's instructions that said lift the car up 2 feet (or something like that). Not sure I have that capability lol
Sure you do. Use a floor jack and concrete blocks. Jack and block. Repeat, putting blocks under jack, jacking again block tires again, until needed height is reached. Be careful it's a long way up on blocks. Then use jack stands under frame so that you can get under the car and not have to worry about being crushed if the unthinkable happens.

when i changed the engine I used zip ties to hold them out of the way. I already had the headers on the previous engine.

The driver side fits right up from the bottom. The passenger side i have to install the headers before the starter.

Put the front of the car on jackstands at full height. Then use a floor jack with a 6" X 6" block of wood or similar under the front crossmember and jack up to get 2' height.
