Who likes the Fiber Optic system as much as me?
I love this system. I was coming home from my brothers house and noticed my left turn signal wasn't working. All I had to do is look at my light monitor system to determine which bulb to change...Very   .
When I got home all I did was take the left rear tail light lense off and replace the bulb...... no guess work at all. BTW all my fiber optics work. :)

68 thru 71 had fiber Optic (actually plastic fiber) that monitors the headlight (high and low beams) Front and rear turn signals and also brake lights and license plate light. There are small "Lights" in front of the shifter plate for the front lights and in the shifter plate itself behind the shifter for the rear lights.

Had it on my 70. Thought it was cool the Vette had Fiber optic before people knew what fiber optic was (exclude military). But too easy for Bubba to mess up.

Great if it worked
Is there a short book on how to fix the system
like the one on the vacuum system
i'm still working on what bubba did to my wiper door
hate the thought of how he messed up the optics

Yep - it's one of my favorite features.
The system is not that difficult to work on and is actually very simple in function. Not really very useful but way cool in my opinion.
Everytime I see a 72 up owner post "no fiber optic system" as an advantage, I feel sorry for them. :jester
Those who are having problems, there are really only a few things that can go wrong.
- the ends not placed correctly.
- the ends dirty or paint covered.
- the headlight 'teet' on the backside dirty.
- crushed optic cable.
- cut optic cable.

It was a cool feature on my 69 that I would like to install on my 73 if it were possible. They all worked once I cleaned up the headlight ends.
How much of the console needs replacing to install the F.O.?
The rest is just running the lines.

Got it on my '69. It looks pretty cool at night. A couple of mine are dim and I think the ends need cleaning. Other than that...I like it.

Becareful about cleaning the ends too much. The ends must have some amount of black paint normally on them. I didn't know better and cleaned the paint completely off. Now in daylight, toward the sun the panel indicator is illuminated quite brightly.

Tom,
Did you clean the little teet on the backside of the headlights. Often times they get dirty and no longer emit light.

I love the fiber optics. On mine, the back ones work great, but the front ones are all very dim. There's so much stuff under the front, I haven't taken the time to find the ends, and clean them. Hope that's all that's needed.

Mine technically didn't work when I bought the car. As it turns out, Bubba painted the ends of them when he had the car painted. All i had to do was pull out the end, scrape the paint off & plug them back in...and they ALL worked!! i was amazed!

i love'em on my 71 vert. at night they really add to the cool factor of driving the car. i don't know about any one else but when i drive the 71 the rush is just about as good as sex. from the time i fire it off till i put it away it just draws me to it. i find my self just sitting and looking at it with a big grin on my face. if you have ever driven a big block vert on a cool evening you probally understand. robert
