Default Magnaflow direct fit mufflers

I have been looking at Corvette Central's direct fit Magnaflow mufflers, does anything have any experience with these, and is Corvette Central the only place that sells these? Also, they offer a 2 inch and a 2.5 inch, I have the stock exhaust in place now, so I'm assuming I need to buy the 2 in. but would it be possible to fit the 2.5 in?

Thanks, I will try and post the links below.

What year is your car? Most SB have a 2 inch exhaust manifold collector even cars that came with the 2.5 inch exhaust-there is about 4 inches of 2 inch pipe on the 2.5 inch exhaust that hooks up to the exhaust manifold and then the rest is 2.5 inches all the way back. Yes, you could and should use the 2.5 inch exhaust. Karol on the forum has the CC magna flow kit with the 2.5 inch exhaust with his 4 speed L-82 and 3.70 gears like my car and I find it to be really loud on the highway when I have been behind his car. He doesn't mind but everyone is different. The mufflers are straight through-no baffles. I use Monza Turbos with my 2.5 inch duals and they are loud enough with the 4 speed and 3.70 gears. Hope that helps!

I have the 2 1/2" Magnaflow manifold back duals on my 75. Fit was near perfect and I like the sound. Much better tone than the Flowmasters on my 73 Camaro.

Magnaflows came from Corvette Central.

My car is a 72 4-speed 350. I was planning on just replacing the mufflers until I have money to buy a full mandrel bent system and headers. If my exhaust is only 2 inch, do I need to buy a reducer for the muffler so that I can fit the 2.5 in. mufflers on my exhaust, and is there room?

I have a set of just the mufflers and tips that I'd be willing to sell if you're interested.

I replaced them with a set of Flowmasters because they just weren't loud enough for me

2.5", but they wouldn't be worth buying if you're putting them on a '72, mine are the '74-'82 style

Forgive me for getting personal, but, how old are you?
I'm 55 now, and when I put the 2 1/2" Magnaflow system on my '74 smallblock a year or two back, they were thrilling.
For ten minutes.
Then I felt they were too loud.
I had my local (Mountainside, NJ) Meineke muffler shop weld in an H pipe behind the trans crossmember, and it quieted things down pretty well. I lost the "rowdy" sound of a true dual exhaust, which I miss. But now I can live with it, and when I drive my car to PA or NY, I no longer wish for earplugs.

No problem, I'm 34 and I have used a lot of different mufflers over the years, including Flowmaster, Magnaflow and Borla and I really don't think the the Magnaflows will be too loud for me, but then again, I have never heard them on a c3 with a 350.

I'm 33, and I still wish the Flowmasters were louder

45, 1970, 454, 2 1/2" and I like the Magnaflow sound at cruise and WOT - loud and loutish. At idle, a little 'phaffy' as some have said, but still mean with a big block, not sure on a 350. I have the Corvette Central direct fit and it's a great kit. Take that, you small turbo rockets on PCH...

58 here and had Flowmasters on my modded '85 Z/28 with a hot '72 L-82 swapped in it. It was loud but a lot of fun. I have turbo mufflers on my true duals under my '80 and I like it as does my co-pilot (she hated the Camaro). I had to drop the exhaust to swap out the rear suspension so I will go back with a fresh dual setup (I'm adding the earlier trans crossmember with the holes for the pipes) with an H-pipe and (maybe) Flowmasters this time. I'll put the exhaust I took off my '80 onto the '77 I'm building now. Waste not, want not.

when I purchased my 77 Monte Carlo back in 2005, I was 17 and it had flowmasters on it at 55mph you couldent hear yourself think, it was way too loud and would resonate very bad, it sounded like an old radial engine from a B17. then I went with headers and magnaflow mufflers and WOW, great tone, very mild sounding until you put your foot in it and it has a nice rumble inside the car and a great roar behind the car, I love magnaflows, I even put a set on my 74 LS4 Monte Carlo in 2008 and they just sound so good. I will never go with anything else now, except side pipes on my vette. my friend had a 77 L82 that we put flowmaster delta 40's on and it was almost too loud inside and outside.

Dumb question-
Are the stock replacement mufflers that come with the Corvette Central 'factory' exhaust kits Magnaflow or are they some other house brand?

I installed their 2 1/2" kit on my 69' Coupe several years back and it's quiet (the way I like it) but I was surprised the mufflers had 2 1/2" inlets and the outlet is only like 1 7/8" ?
Seems that would be kinda restrictive?

I have the same setup, i can hardly hear the motor on the hiway with my T-Tops off...love the sound in town. For those that want something quieter buy a lincoln or a C6

I am 74 and the Flowmasters on my Camaro have such a hollow, droning sound, that I don't like to drive it.
The Corvette has 2 1/2 Magnaflows and the sound is perfect for these old ears.

I posted a video on the thread below of my car on a dyno. There is some competing noise from the dyno and fans but, this will give you an idea of the tone you can look forward to with a straight through Magnaflow type muffler. This is a 2.5 in system with headers on a small block.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...ggestions.html

I used mandrel bent mufflers. When I spoke with Magnaflow, they said they did not mandrel bend their mufflers because the slight bend decreased the sound level by 4db or something like that, with little power loss. I would have been torqued if I bought a mandrel bent system and then put on $80 a piece mufflers only to find out they are not mandrel bent also.

I just ordered the 2.5 inch magnaflow mufflers from Corvette central. I will probably have to have my existing exhaust pipes expanded to fit the mufflers, but oh well. I will let you guys know how it goes.
