Also, with a fully charged battery the cars volt meter drops 5 amps negative when I hit the brakes and buries the needle all the way negative when I turn on the AC.
its a 1970 Corvette any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Disconnect the positive battery cable...connect a test light between the cable end and the positive post. The test light will probably illuminate. Then start pulling the fuses one at a time. When the test light goes out, you've identified which circuit the problem is in.
If that is inconclusive, an alternative is the alternator may need rebuilding or replacing.

It sounds to me like your alternator may not be putting out enough voltage. Put a multimeter across the battery terminals without the engine running it should read around 12 volts. With the engine running it should read around 14 volts. The problem with mine ended up being the two wire pigtail that goes into the alternator.
