Default 1972 Front Wheel Well Issue - Help Please

Occassionally my passenger front tire makes a scrapping sound. I checked it out yesterday and noticed when you turn the wheels to the right the back of the tire rubs up against the rear of the plastic wheel well liner. The driver side tire does not rub. The driver side wheel well has a bolt securing the back of the liner to something. The passenger wheel liner did not have this bolt so when the tire turned it rubbed and moved the liner back slightly. I also did not see a hole in the liner to insert this bolt. Do l need to drill hole in the liner and insert a bolt? I have a few questions that perhaps someone can help me with. Thank you.

1) How do I know exactly where to drill the hole in the liner to insert the bolt? With the front of the car on ramps will I be able to see where the bolt attaches to?

2) Does anyone know the size of the bolt and thread?

3) Can this be done without removing the tire?

4) I am scared to jack up the car for fear of cracking the fiberglass body. What is the correct way to do this?

Hi m,
I believe the bolt you're asking about fastens the inner fender apron to the metal splash shield that's to the rear of the back of the apron. There should already be holes in the apron's lower lip for the bolts. If the lip and holes are missing then it might be your apron is damaged. A picture would help to determine that.
There should be 2 bolts on each side of the car, not just 1.
I believe they're 1/4x18, and fasten into nuts that are welded in place on those metal splash shields.
Take one of the other bolts with you to the store to make sure you get the right size.
This bolt can be put in place with the car on the ground if in fact the splash shield is where it should be. Check of that first.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Splash Shields. You can see the square nuts welded to the shields... 2 each side.

The apron flange the bolts go through on their way to the nuts on the shields.

Allan those bolts are there. The missing bolt is higher up the apron more to the inside. It's closer to the top hose you show in your picture. The head on the bolt on the driver side is very shiny. That tire must rub the bolt occassionally.
