Default Paint Codes For '71 Please!

Please... someone list the paint codes for a '71 Steel Cities Grey with black interior. I'm going to look at a '71 tonight, and want to be sure it's the original color. Also, I'm a little skeptical about it's black interior with "red carpet". It's the correct loop carpet for the standard vynal interior, but did they come from the factory that way???Thank you much...

According to the Black Book the color number for Steel Cities Gray is 988.
Black interior is std=BK/V, 402=BK/L
As far as red carpet with black seats, I haven`t got the slightest. Maybe someone else will chime in.

black interior with "red carpet" - did they come from the factory that way???
Don't think so Eddie - the owner will probably try to tell you it's a RARE factory option, but don't fall for that. Could be that everything else is OK and a (colorblind) previous owner installed the red carpet for some unknown reason. See if the codes match and everything else looks right. Steel Cities is a gorgeous color!!! Good luck!!

Steel Cities Gray code 988 could have come with a standard black vinyl or saddle vinyl interior, or a deluxe interior with black or saddle leather. The deluxe interior also came with wood trim on the doors and console and premium carpeting on the lower portions of the doors. There is no way it came with red carpeting from the factory. You might want to get the Corvette Black Book and bring it with you. Has all the important info you might need when looking to buy a car.
Good Luck!!! I happen to like 71 Steel Cities Gray vettes. ;)

Thanks much guys... Untill I saw the Steel Grey, Electron Blue "was" my fav color. Man, that grey is gorgeous, and I don't see many of them around. The car does not have deluxe interior, but is in pretty good shape.
Thanks for arming me with negotiation bullets... :D Will let you know if I bring her home tonight.
