I have the original wheels in storage, but wanted something different. I ended up with wire wheels. They are 15's. Front rubber is 255/60/15 and the rears are 275/60/15.

An ''American speed'' 575HP SB 406ci carbed engine.

It has been lightened down to 1.260kgs, 4.11 rear gears built on Tom's parts, 4 speed rebuilt box, suspensions and brakes state of the art, no AC, no power anything, lexan windshield, empty doors, race seats and many other mods.

The car has been built 10 years ago, still going strong like day one.

No problems with the 406?
I'm getting ready to build one, and a majority of people say don't.

Did you run the by pass from the water pump back to the rear cylinders?

Your Corvette looks like it could get the job done.

Ralph

One more question the back end under the bumper, how much work was that?

"Many people say don't."

I have a midly built 406 SBC and love it. Est 400 hp/435-450 torque. Sounds great through the sidepipes, runs on 93 and has good torque when you step into it. I have heard rumors of cooling issues. I do run an aluminum radiator, alum high flow water pump and high flow thermostat. Does creep up on hot day in traffic, but never above 210.

Just make sure you do not have any cracks at the steam holes. Have a machine shop check you block good or buy a new aftermarket block.

Not one since bought new, bluprinted and runned in, it's a magnificent piece of hardware, really.

The rear bumper and the whole front end have been modded in deep by a professional.

Default My new Coys

Here are some pics with my new Coys. 18x8x4" bs front with Nitto 245/45s 18x9.5x5.5" bs rear with Nitto 285/45. I moved the ebrake cable to the top of the trailing arm, though it doesn't look like it was required. Used 1/4" wheel spacers in rear, and there is no rubbing. Also changed the exhaust to use CC true duals pipe set and Magnaflow 11226 mufflers with center/offset. My previous exhaust elbows were too close to the tires. Thanks to Dustup as I used info from his build in setting mine up.

No mods to get these wheels and tires to fit.
The wheel width and back spacing is the same as stock.
Vette Brakes & Products powder coated calipers.
Vinylternative Decals for the front calipers.
Steel Braided Brake Hoses.

This thread helped me a lot.

I have just really been able to drive the car since the wheel and tire upgrade and have discovered that the front tires rub the bottom of the fender lip when making 90 degree turns at speeds of 25 mph and up. I have new Biltstein HD's all around with the original springs.
The front ride height is 27 inchs at the bottom of the fender lip and the rear is 28.75 inchs with 1/4 tank of fuel at the bottom of the fender lip. What is the stock ride height and where is the measurement taken?
So I am thinking of replacing the front 255/45/18 with 245/45/18's or new springs front only or both front and rear.
Or I am open to advice.

After much research I went with the front 245/45/18 as the safe bet

Original springs are getting tired anyway.
A set of stock height springs are probably needed anyway, you just don't know it yet. I put a set of MOOG springs on the front of mine.

On this one thing I suggest you have it done.
I had mine apart 3 separate times.
It is an art to get the top of the springs in the right place and have them stay there while you put the stupid thing back together.
It seems I still have anger issues of it.....

Hello guys. I need some help without hijacking this thread please. Any help here or PMs is greatly appreciated!!
I picked up this C3 this weekend.
I want to make it look like a 1970s hotrod!
I want Torque Thrust(grey centers).
15X6 in the front. I understand their standard 15X6 will work, but I want a 15X10 in the rear, so the tires hang out some. I want a T/A Radial 295 50 in the rear.
ALL American Racing said was that their standard 10" wheel would have an issue with The rear trailing arm/e brake cable.
I don't mind making modifications if I have too. Can anyone help a brother out on what needs to be done here?
I really don't want to go to their 2 piece wheel if I can make this combo work.
Thanks in advance!!

The reason many get away from 15 inch tires is the simple fact that they don't make a real high performance tire in 15 inch.
Okay they do but it is the exception to the rule.

Check out Street legal Performance's line.

Here's what I would like to see (I will use my stock config as a baseline format for order/capture of components/parameters). Perhaps we could omit stock parts to keep the details to ONLY the changes from stock. I'll include here just as an example. If there are other fitment/parts details that are essential please share. I would like to make it easy for those of us considering upgrade to make informed purchase decisions and minimize frustration:

  • Stock stamped steel upper/lower control arms
  • Stock style spindles
  • Stock 4-piston calipers & rotors
  • Stock swaybar
  • Stock 15x8 aluminum wheels with stock backspacing (what is stock backspacing?)
  • Stock style acorn lug nuts
  • Goodyear Eagle GT II P255/60R15 RWL tires

  • Stock style lug nuts (same as front)
  • Mastercraft Avenger G/T P255/60R15 RWL tires
  • KYB GR-2 Shocks

Seriously. I can't move my fingers for a few days after cleaning those things. I think they still give the car the "classic" look.

I wish I had a composite rear spring.

I bought a new rear spring for $50.00 with no shipping.
It was much better than the 50 year old one that was on it.

But I hear the composite just ride better.

I can't remember which Moog front coils I put on it, but I know it was less than the 550Lb springs.
That should help.

Ralph
