Melting Slicks
This is what it looked like when I got it, and it's bone stock.
This is what it looks like today, or last summer.
Front wheels are Fikse 18x9-4.5bs, no suspension mods.
Rear wheels are Fikse 18x10-5.0bs, offset T/A and shortened glass spring.
Tires are Continental 245x45/r18 extreme contact up front and 285x45/18 on the back.
First picture, 3 car shows no trophy. Second picture, 2 car shows 2 trophies.
Don't take to shows any more, but the only outside difference is the wheel/tire package. The judges thought it looked better, maybe new ideas can make a C3 look and handle better. T

Your Corvette looks great! Very nice high end wheel/tire choice.

Modern ruber definitely makes the car handle better too. I noticed a huge difference, mainly in traction, when I swapped out my wheels/tires with some good modern performance rubber. With the old wheels/tires my car was slipping and sliding, and felt totally unsafe when I wanted to have some fun. Now it feels like everyone else on the road is lost or purposely trying to slow me down Here is the slightly different set up I have now (I now need to raise the suspension a little bit and take some better pictures though);
Torq Thrust 2 polished
Front 17x8 4in BS (VN5157861) with 255/50r17 Nitto Invo (27in tall)
Rear 18x9 5in BS (VN5158961) with 295/45r18 Nitto NT05 (28.25in tall)
This is the biggest wheel/tire combo i can fit under my Vette with a good amount of suspension travel. I still had to do some minor modifications to free them up from rubbing in certain areas (good thing the paint job wasn’t done yet).
I know they are so many people who run these wheels, and it’s far from a creative choice, but I just think they fit the car really well. I once put 16 inch wheels from a 2005 Mustang on a 66 Mustang and even though they looked ok, they just didn’t quite fit the car right, so I am picky about getting the right “matching” look with non OEM wheels/tires. I really like the classic to classic look, although I think some modern looking wheels look good on some classics if there are other modern complements. Yes, it’s easy to unbolt and bolt up new wheels and tires, but very uneasy on your wallet! You can use photoshop instead of $1,000s of dollars.

Wheel weights
You can find tire weights pretty easily on most tire manufacturer sites, and they seem to be pretty accurate in my experiences; but not a lot of wheel manufacturers provide weights, and they are sometimes inaccurate. For those that are concerned about adding/reducing weight with a tire/wheel combo, I have a few acurate weights to share that I have gathered all through my personal scale (all weights are with caps included);
American Racing Torq Thrust II VN515 polished (fairly light alloy wheels and decent price)
16x7, 0 offset (4 inch Backspace) part #VN5156761 $120= 16 lbs
16x8, -11mm offset (4 inch Backspace) #VN5156861 $122= 16.5 lbs
17x8, -11mm offset (4 inch Backspace) #VN5157861 $156= 18.5 lbs
18x9, 0 offset (5 inch Backspace) part #VN5158961 $180= 20.8 lbs
18x10, +6mm offset (5.75 backspace) Part #VN5158161 $190= 21.6 lbs
Ridler 695 alloy, gloss medium gray with machined (polished looking lip)
17x8, 0 offset (4.5 inch Backspace) part #695-7861G $124= 20.0 lbs
18x9.5, +6mm offset (5.5 inch Backspace) #695-8961G $133= 23.8 lbs
And if you want the stock wheel weight to compare;
15x8 OEM rally wheel= 25 lbs
15x8 OEM alloy wheel= 19.2 lbs

Looks good, your wheels have a good blend of modern with a bit of classic at the same time.

Nice 68, got one also in Lemans blue. Now for the real comparison, after having low profile tires on put the OEMs on and go for a ride. Mine lasted 10 miles, thought the car was going to flip over, had to slow way down on the corners. T

So your saying you had a lot side wall flex with your OEM tires? I didn’t notice that on mine probably because I had dropped so much weight from the car; I could drop the air pressure down to 25 psi and still not notice any change in tire bulge at the bottom. Ive been running my new tires at 30 psi to help a little with traction and ride comfort.
I did notice a huge traction difference with just the modern/better ruber design and compound. My OEM wheels and tires are long gone to help pay for my project. The only thing I changed in this recent set up was move my rears to the front and put bigger stickier ruber on the back. I built this car to drive with a mildly built LS engine/T56 trans, and 3.73 gear swap.

I apologize for going overboard expressing my opinion, and I can understand why others might get offended by reading my post. I wasn't trying to make fun of particular forum member's cars. I started off defending a forum member and trying to encourage and help others who look through this thread to make a tasteful choice; most viewers are probably not even forum members, and are just trying to decide which (if any) aftermarket wheel/tire combo to go with. I am not against aftermarket wheels/tires as you can see, I just don’t like certain distasteful (gentler term than “ghetto") combos. I am fully aware that my opinion and choices are not gospel doctrine, but I figure it is better for people who are trying to decide what to do see some criticism now, rather than possibly regret their choice and/or receive criticism after they spend over $1,000.

Love it! Do you have a shot looking down the side? I assume the rears sit outside the bodywork a bit (given my 9.5" wide 5.05" backspace are basically flush)? What size tyres?

It's a .040 over 350, I think that comes to 357 cid. 327 block is shrink wrapped. Vortec centrifical charger and there is no kits for our C3s. Every thing is custom, what a PITA. Would never do it again. T

I feel dumb, I totally forgot Vortec made those off to side super chargers (I knew something didn’t look quite right for a turbo in your picture). I’ve been into the modern LS engines lately and seems most people like to turbo when they boost, but that probably would have been a lot bigger project for you. A boosted Vette either way seems like it would be fun.

Awesome! Thanks for that. I'm hoping to have some pics to post sometime in the next few days of my new 18x10s and 295 Continental semislicks that I've bought for track use on my car. You've gone to the next level! Slicks aren't allowed for the most of the classes/events I run in unfortunately.

Metalhead I went back a few pages, found your new tires but not car. Lets hurry up with your pics. Local dealer sells them used slicks for $110 ea, with supposedly just 1 heat cycle. They have lots of rubber left and just loaded up with clag. They usually last 1 season depending on how many events. Your season just starting? Ours ended in the beginning of October and doesn't resume until late April. Just maybe if I get back into shape I could hit the track a few times next summer. T
