Share Your C3 Upgraded Wheel/Tire Combo's

It seems that 18X8 with 4" back space is the correct size wheel for a stock look. However for Torq Thrust II it appears 4" back space is a custom size at nearly double the price of the standard 4.5" back space for that wheel (roughly $400 vs $220 per wheel). Am I right about this?

anyone else running the SR M/T radials, I'm wonder if the handling would be better than the cooper cobra or radial T/A. looks lik a modern tread pattern at least.

Thanks…it is a work in progress…..will put an updated pic with the new tire/wheel combos along with the Autofab rear Moser M9 install when I get it done in a couple of weeks. Still have to finish the one off interior pieces that mold around my roll bar. Was thinking about doing a thread of the entire build with all the little custom goodies inside as well.

The only downside to running the M/T SR tires is that if you have different sizes front and rear you will never be able to rotate the tires at all because they are directional. I really like the tread design and well who doesn't like 15 inch wide tires on the back lol

I finally got the car lowered an inch.
These are aftermarket Motorsports C5 wheels. They look like stock wheels except for a line of allen heads around them. Sort of like the old time Centerline wheels.
Rears are 18X10.5 and the fronts are 17X9.5 Nitto tires.
Front tires are currently 245/45/17, but I will replace them with the next bigger size which is 255/55/17. That should fill up the front.
I used 2.5 inch adaptors all around and had to relocate the rear emergency brake tabs to the top of the arms. I have no clearance issues at all.
Handling is drastically improved!!!

I had been kicking around the idea of new wheels for my 1980 for a while.
I got a pretty good deal on ebay for a set of Ridler 695s in matte black with a brushed aluminum lip.
17x8 front 18x8 rear 4.5" backspace
Tires Nitto 255/50/RZ17 front. Nitto 255/45/RZ18 rear
First things first: I absolutely hate the stick on balancing weights contrasting with the black rims. I painted them flat black so they weren't AS noticeable.
I think I may have to adjust the stance as it just not perfect.
And I also think I will have to upgrade the rotors and calipers as they are pretty ugly and much more visible than with the stock aluminum wheels.

Andy, maybe it's the angle, but it looks like you have the tires reversed? The fatter sidewall on the front tire?

But looking at it it does look really off. Maybe when I drop the rear end it won't be as noticeable.
This may turn out to be one costly mistake on my part.

Look at the side profile picture with the top half of the car covered up. I think if you swap them you're gonna like it and the stance.

I was thinking of buying 255/45/17s to replace the 255/50/17s as they are significantly cheaper than buying 265/50/18s to replace the rears.
I could then sell the "used" tires. And by used I mean a total of 35 feet worth of driving. It really chaps my @$$ that I didn't think of this before I bought the tires and had them mounted and balanced. I was only concentrating on keeping the wheel diameter the same as before.
Rookie mistake.

You may want to look at bigger tires for the rear. I am currently using 275/40/18.
Or, smaller for the front? My fronts are currently 245/45/17. I wanted to use the 255/55 for the front, but after looking at your car I may not do that.
