Default 69 427 headers instead of cast exhaust manifold

I have the factory side exhaust system on my car same as N14 and I believe it is added afterwards. The cast exhaust manifold are 3880827 and 3880828. What kind of headers could I replace these manifolds with?
I have looked at the Hedman 68216 that I think should be correct for N14 cars but the shape does not really look like the cast ones I have?

The only ones I know of that directly replace the stock manifolds are the McJacks. Very nice, very expensive...

did you read the description and call to verify? They seem to be designed for the applicaton but you should check the instructions first to see what is involved. From the shape it would appear you need to cut the existing engine pipe and attach it to the headers.

You will have to have mid pipes made to the connect the header flange to the rest of the system.

Same for the none side pipes. it's not a bolt on item.

Here you can see the new mid pipe that had to be created to connect to the rest of the exhaust on a non N14 car.

What material is that heat Barrier made of and how did you get it to stay on the bottom of your car?

Default Headers

Those are the Headers that I have on my 69. The Headers fit the car perfectly, but you will have to have an exhaust shop modify the pipes to fit the headers.
If you have a welder, this would be a quick, simple job.
As for price, when I bought my Headers, they were about $149.

Modifying the side-pipe hardware doesn't seem like the right way to go...unless you don't mind chopping up the original stuff. Why not buy those headers and have your exhaust shop modify THEM to fit the side pipes?

Because the collectors on the Hedman Hedders are SO far away from the location of the "collectors" on the OE manifolds, I don't see where it would be possible or cost effective. I think the McJacks would be an easier modification.

Have the exhaust place work up a couple of jumper tubes to connect the header outlet with the side-pipe inlet. Two fittings and a piece of pipe cut correctly [for each side].

But in order to do THAT, he'd have to cut off about 10-12" of the pipe from the sidepipes.....which you suggested he NOT do, in your previous post.

I misunderstood your "distance between them" statement and thought they were too far apart. Sorry....

my advice, get the hedmans, then instead of modifying the orig sidepipes, store them in your attic, then build 3 in custom pipes which will fit under the stock sidepipe covers. On a big block you will pick up 50-60 hp. I have done this and have before and after dyno sheets to prove it. Still looks stock, but improved performance, you can put the the orig pipes and manifolds back on if you sell the car and preserve the value.

Do you remember what mufflers you used?

Another option is to use mid-year pipes, instead of the more restrictive 69 factory style. Beautiful sound, more HP.

True, but they're still only about 2.25" in diameter....

I agree, but they're a step up from the 69 type. I have a factory side pipe car, I've run both. The midyears definitely sound better, more aggressive to my ear anyway. I didn't get the impression that the OP was looking for max performance. I'm running Hookers with max-flow inserts, but I wasn't suggesting that.

I think a documented 3" side exhaust system using the Hedman's would appeal to a lot of people. Including me.

I used the spiral baffles that the guy sells on this forum. I only have one set in there, though I am contemplating another set to quiet things down a bit.
