Thank you Matt, I'm going to do some more research before I make a decision.

How many gears do you want? I went from a 4 to a 6 speed.

I did this to My 81 just last year. Went from the stock auto to a stock 4spd. A lot of guys go to a 5 or 6 speed for overdrive. Personally for the amount and type of driving I do the 4 spd was fine. I got everything needed all together from a forum member who was converting an 80 to an auto. Took me and my dad about 4 days working with a lift. BEST thing I ever did. the car is so much more enjoyable to drive. I paid 1500 for everything, transmission, clutch, flywheel, bell housing, pedal assem., driveshaft, z bar, z bar bracket shifter and linkage, cross member, center console piece, and this guy was nice enough to bag and label every nut and bolt. I needed to buy a new starter (for a 4spd) and speedometer cable. The one for the auto was too short. I used everything from the guy, although this year I pulled the motor to swap it, and in doing so I am replacing the clutch with a new one and the flywheel can't be cut so I bought a new one. Maybe overdrive is for you, but I think it will add to the cost, I am happy with the choices I made and really enjoy the car even more now then ever. Nice thing about 80 and 81 is the z bar bracket gets bolted to the frame, and the holes are all ready there even on the autos. If you have any other questions let me know the job is still pretty fresh in my head since i did it last year, but now a days I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to, and I'm only 36, ahhhhhhh.

Hey jaybird81...was the engine block drilled and taped for the pivot bolt for the Z bar or did you have to do this?
Just curious.
