Default Paint chip repair advice

Hey all,

Ordered some matching orange paint repair for the 74 to patch up some of the chips since a full on paint job is out of the question for a few years...

Any advice on how to do this process decent enough to make the repairs blend well?

Also - any advice on repairing flaking paint on the headlights? Seems to be the worst area on my car...

Thanks!

If I paint a fender or door, I use my spray gun. But for touching up chips or small repairs, I use my airbrush. I can control the spray pattern from a pencil dot to a small spray.
A guy was pulling out of a parking spot and hit my SLK. He couldn't hear my horn blowing due to his loud rap music. Luckily there was only paint damage and no breakage or dents.

I didn't want to spray the whole bumper, so I had the girl at the paint shop mix up a pint of base coat clear coat mixed together ready to spray. I feather edged the damaged paint area, applied a few coats of filler primer, then applied a few coats of paint to with my airbrush.

You need to practice to obtain the results to want.

This needed to be posted in the paint and body section...

It is all depending on where you need to repair...the adjacent panels and if there is any way to do a 'back-tape' and hide the blend in a sharp body line....the condition of the painted surface now...and other issues.

Photo's need to be posted and there are many variables that can come into play.

The chances that the color will match...unless you sent out a part of the car to have to professionally tinted to match...is unlikely. Possible...but I would bet it will be off. And if it is off enough....blending will not work. You may get lucky and I honestly hope you do. But I paint for a living and unless it is a very new car..the color will and can either fade lighter or darker form the original color....and even if it is new car...that still does not mean anything due to the HIGH possibility that the color has a variant.

Providing a paint code number does not mean anything....all it is, is a starting point. You may get lucky..and then again ..you may not.

Need photos and your thoughts on what you want.

Shop around, find someone who will blend the trouble area. I have a big chunk from my bumper. Paint shop will do it for 250.00. Others bs me and estimated as much az 1400.00. Lots of crooks out there.
