Default 68, 327 ram's horn manifold

Hi all,
Was hoping someone maybe ale to help me out.

Have a 68 with a pretty standard 327.

Does anyone know if the ram's horn manifold is the same for both sides?

For some reason my 68 has a ram's horn on one side and a standard old cast manifold on the other. Would like to get back to the rams on both.

Cheers

Typically the passenger side manifold will have a provision for a choke tube to feed warm air to your automatic choke and the flange on the down pipe will be machined flat to accept a flat gasket between the manifold and the "Exhaust Heat Riser Valve". The valve will be machined on the bottom to accept the "Exhaust Donut" and down pipe..

Where does the "standard old cast manifold" you have dump? If you're going to have to modify your header pipes anyway to accept the other "Rams Horn" manifold, how about jumping to these manifolds, 162S-L & 162S-R...

They flow as good as it gets from a rams horn manifold and most will never be able to tell what you've done.

Good luck... GUSTO

LH has a boss for mounting the alternator. RH does not. Both have provision for AIR.

Post a pic of both sides please. I was under the impression that no cast manifold other than a ram's horn would fit on an C3.

You need casting numbers 3872765 and 3872778, left and right side.

Cairns, are you Aus based and is the car RHD? If so the manifold was probably swapped during the conversion.

Cheers guys,
Best I could do with pics

Right hand side

Left hand side

The car is a right hand drive conversion, which maybe why the right side manifold is not a rams horn. Although there seems to be enough room for one.

The current right side exits at the back of the block, which means it runs really close to the firewall.

My aim is to get a bit of separation between the exhaust and firewall to ease the heat flow into cabin. Returning to a more original exhaust on the right seems like a good solution.

Just checking that there is no gotchas between the sides that might catch me out.

It looks to me like the ram's horn should give you more clearance for the steering rag joint. The rams horn goes up and then down, while the log exhaust manifold is hung below the spark plugs. Maybe they did that for more clearance for the air conditioning compressor. Lou.

Thanks Lou,
Not sure why the manifolds are different, those pesky trolls again.

Think I go the route something like gusto suggested with the rams horns.

Cheers all
