Default Check my logic, point the flaws

OK I am considering the alternatives to custom made 17" rims, and it keeps pointing to adapters. IF I were to get said adapters, would i need longer hub bolts? I am guessing the biggest problem would be lug nuts backing off. would drilling pilot holes in the lugs and using small cotter pins work?

I know, I'm just
but my brain locked onto it and I wanaa find a decent solution

The question is "would you trust coter pins to hold a wheel on at 70 mph?" I know my answer. If the hub bolts do not have enough threads to safely secure the lug nuts - buy longer bolts. Safety is not a compromising situation.

Oh, I would have longer, just considering it as a added safety

I wouldn't suspect that they would be needed. Also drilling through the lug nuts might weaken them. Also, would you have to drill through the hub bolts too?

I have seen set ups like this in other applications, just not sure about this one.

First to clarify, adapters usually bolt to the hub and then the wheels bolt to the adapter. This should not need longer studs.

Spacers fit between the hub and the wheel, depending on the thickness of the spacer you might need longer studs.

I would think that properly installed adapters would cause no problems. I know Vintage Wheel sells wheels with adapters. They told me they have 1,000's out on the street with no problems.

Hope it helps.

i agree with trw. as you may notice below, i'm running 17's with late model offset. got wheel adaptors from VBP and haven't had any problems. they come with a deep reach lug that goes well into the adaptor so getting a good bite on the lug bolt isn't an issue. i have taken mine on and off a couple dozen times and had the car at the track and have had NO PROBLEMS. i guarantee you that if these things were at all delicate, i would have broken one by now. last time i was at the track, i cracked my windshield from frame flex due to heavy g-force and side-loading. wheels were the last of my concerns. :yesnod:

Kewl Clutch that's what i was looking for.. Now I need to make sure they have an adapter that will let me put the ZR-1 or C-5 rims on.

 stevo.
mark, i have seen c-5 wheels on both c-3s and c-4s. ironically, the early c-5 wheels look better on the c-3/c-4 than they do on the c-5. with the width of a non-z06 wheel, i don't believe you will have any trouble finding adaptors to make this work.
