Default Under dash wiring question?

I was replacing bulbs under the dash and came across 2 wiring connectors that are not connected, anyone have any ideas? The purple and yellow connector is on the left side of the steering column the book it says this connection should go to the neutral safety switch but my neutral safety switch works correctly. And the second connector with the 2 light green and and 1 blue wire I have no idea where this goes. This is a 1979 with automatic transmission.

right side of steering column above throttle.

on a side note, I thought maybe they went together so i tried plugging them together and they fit, problem is it turned my starter on full time and did not sound good at all, other than pretty much everything works in the car as it should except the door chime/key chime. so I'm at a loss for what these could be, I have no rear defrost as the car didn't come with it so I'm wondering if one wire connector is for that even though the car wasn't optioned for it. the headlight dimmer works correctly without this being plugged in.

purple and yellow wire connector is for the NSS when the car is equipped with a standard trans. GM put both plugs for stand./and auto in the same harness. just tape it up out of the way, my 79 has the same unused plug. i think the other connector with the 2 green wires and blue, is for the backup light switch when using a manual trans. just tape it up out of the way...... the auto trans. used one plug, the manual used 2 plugs.....

the PURPLE and YELLOW wire is for a the 'clutch safety switch'...if the car came with a manual transmission.

PROFESSIONAL ADVICE:

COME ON PEOPLE!!!!! One good way to set you car on fire...or melt down wiring is connect wire connectors together that do not belong together. LOGIC would tell you...if everything is working and fine....why join something together without knowing why they are there. Not each and every connector has to go to something. There are many...much like what is going on here....were put into the harness so GM did not have 2 specific harnesses for different options. They made one harness that accomplished both tasks. Like some say: "If it ain't broke....don't fix it".

BUBBA 'knows' that you cannot have any loose wire ends anywhere in a vehicle. He would connect them to anything available...

Default Plug in under dash

I am having the same problem on my 1979.the wires are to short to go very far.i have a wiring diagram and so far no luck finding these wires or where they go.they don't go to the rear defogger my car has this and is working.the safety switch is out mine works just fine and is down by the shifter to far away. I removed the whole dash and couldn't see where they could go. time will tell as I get every thing else up and running.

It would be wise for you to start your own new thread...and post photos of the wires you are having a problem with...and keep in mind that taking close up photos helps out.... and also.... photos taken further away so we can see where it is coming from.
