Recommendations for (mini) starter
I think my starter is in need of replacement now too. This may be another contributing factor of my general ignition problems.
How do these low-draw mini starters work? Any recommendations? I'm also looking at the GM Performance starter...

I've been using the same CVR mini-starter on my last 3 engines and it's never let me down, and it's not as expensive as the CSI, Tilton, or TCI, etc.

Re: Recommendations for (Monty)
Monty put me onto the CVR Protorque several years ago. Heat soak gone, fast start, reliable.

I'm using the CVR also. Turns the 540 just fine. Really had no issue with the stock GM one but it wouldn't fit after the new raised port heads raised the headers. Another one of those little unexpected pleasures!

I have the GM and am very pleased with it. The price is apparently much higher than other brands though.

Last year Zwede (Markus Strobl) put a stock GM mini-starter from a 96-99 Chevy/GMC 5.7 Pickup. I don't remember exactly what he paid for it, but I think he got it from an autoparts store. I was looking in that direction for my new ZZ4 (which I'm still waiting for) since it will work on the 153 tooth flexplate.
