Does anyone know what kind of material was used for the liners on a 82 rear spring with FE7, and where I could get it? It appears to me to be aluminum.
Seems that the restoration houses list the spring liners for 68 to 77. The 78 to 82 springs were a bit wider, 2 1/4" to 2 1/2", IIRC.
At any rate, they were some kind of black plastic. Yours may have been painted.
This spring has aluminum liners not plastic. I have seen documentation on this some time in the past, I just didn't know if they were reproduced or if someone knew what type of aluminum it was. If I knew the type I probably could fab my own.
My 82 has the FE7 suspension, I have replaced the steel spring with a fiberglass unit. I will look in the garage and see what the liners are made of in the AM...........Tom

Here is a pic of mine. You can see the metal sticking out from the side of the spring. A magnet doesn't stick so I assume its a type of aluminum or other non-ferrous metal.
80-82 gymkhana sport suspension had a steel spring. Composite was only used on the base cars-which most cars of those years were-F-41 was much rarer....
Apparently the liner is Zinc? Some Mopars use it also. I found a place in TN that makes it for leaf springs. Now if I could find a source for the original looking clamps I may be in business.
Please share where you found the liner material, and how well it worked in this application. I've been searching for a rebuild kit for my 81 FE7 spring for quite a while with no luck.
