625 Street Demon opinions
I'm in the market for a new carb and have been looking closely at the Street Demon carb. I'm after good drivability, economy and crisp throttle response. My 350 has a stock, mild cam, Vortec heads, headers and 9:1 compression. I might consider a Jet Q-jet as well, but the Steet Demon is on sale cheap at Summit right now and looks like a very interesting carb with Q-jet/Thermoquad influences. I've read mixed opinions about Barry Grant and his products but now that Holley owns them maybe things will be better. I'm wondering if this carb will still be around (with available spare parts and such) for years to come. I like that its fresh take on older proven designs rather than being a rehash of an old Holley design. Does anybody have any input on this carb?

I have been happy w/ mine-
I bought it from Summit- Ordered it a 9:30 at night-and it was on my doorstep the next day at 2PM!!! Rather than try a rebuilt Quad- the Demon had some great reviews.
I had just purchased my 73 w/ pretty much stock L82 350-
basically to drive the Hot Rod Power Tour. Bolt it on and the next week drove a grand total of 3000 miles and have put another 1500+ miles on it since-almost 4500 mile in six months.
I gotta tell you it performed flawlessly!!! I have 3.55 gears with the original M21 4 speed and was able to see a consistent 14-15 MPG running 3000-3200 RPM on the highway. One push on the throttle and it starts immediately- EVERY time (the car DID sit for almost a week one time). I also went w/ the Crane electronic ignition at the same time I put on the carb- it idles at 750 RPM w/o any fluctuation. I've haven't had a vapor lock issue- even after I sat in traffic for well over an hour at on of the venues in West Virginia.
Bolted right on- has enough vacuum ports and hooked up to the stock throttle bracket w/ just a slight bend. I did have to run a wire to the fusebox for the electric choke.

I see that Autoplicity has the 625 on for $280 and 750 for $300, retail me not has a 35% shipping discount for them as well. I need to pay off Black Friday and Christmas before I buy anymore vette parts.
