Product called Solvol Autosol works for me if they are bad, once polished up I give them a regular wipe over with a soft cloth with some silicone spray on it.

aluminum foil and water, once the oil and grease is removed.
I wouldn't use metal polish. It has abrasives in it and will scratch the finish.

I've never heard of that, but can't wait to try it.

Brasso is too abrasive for chrome, I have used it on a buffing wheel to remove scratches from plastic though! Careful with the pressure if doing this, if things heat up the plastic will melt.

Not unless you are talking about a chrome specific polish.

Mothers mag and wheel polish says specifically, "not recommended for chrome..." on the label.

Keep the foil flat & go lightly in circles. It won't scratch, it just removes all the deposits on the chrome.
Make sure you then seal the chrome with a good product to prevent rust etc.
I did this on my bumpers. It produced an amazing shine.
