Default 82 With side pipes, Anyone done this?

I met with a reputable exhaust company that says he can put side pipes on my 82 California vette. Here is how he proposes to do it. Just past the catalytic converter he will weld in piping for the side pipes and install electronic exhaust cutouts on the side pipe pipes. This will enable me to choose which pipes to use, the stock exhaust (For emission testing) or the side pipes, for the cool factor.
Anyone done this or will suggest it not being a good idea with a good reason?
Thanks,

if its past the convertor i don't see it makes any difference. I'm sure someone that does systems in that wacky state you live in would know whats legal and what isn't.

Seems like a lot or twists and turns to get side pipes on a C3 with the stock cats. I would think it would be more restrictive and not so sure how it would look once done.

Yes, the owner made it clear to me how much we would both be fined if the cat was removed. Yes, it would still be smog certifiable. Just an "L" shaped bend up to each pipe. which won't be any lower than an installed side pipe would be.

It should be legal if it is past the cats. Just abandon the stock system and forget about the diverter valve.$$$ Look at the number of cat-back systems out there especially for the C5 and C6.

I've always read on here you can't alter the exhaust at all in CA. Cant even do true duals wih two cats. has to have one cat because that's what it came with.

Well, I went ahead and put pipes on my Vette. I bought the pipes from Patriot. See the pictures for how this was done. I now have a very nice deep rumble in park and its surprisingly quiet....sort of while cruising.

at least that convertor should flow better than the stock pellet type convertor. that oval shaped inlet one from the TPI corvettes may have been a little better. i hope it works for you.

Looks good.
Damn Cali emission laws.
I remember yanking my 2 into 1 heavy rusty cat and stock exhaust and trashing it with a smile. Like major allergy surgery to clear congestion.
Post a vid so we can hear it.
