Default Head light raises back up

On my 79 vet, after turning off the engine, the right headlight raises up (even if the headlights were never turned on). If I start the car back up and then shut it off again , it will stay down. How can I fix this problem...............Thanks

John:

Welcome to the forum. I had the same problem in my 70 vette.

I checked the hoses for loose connections then I replaced the check valve and filter. These should be found near the carb @ pass. side. I got mine at the GM dealer. They can also be found in the vette mail order catalogs.

If new check valve doesn't do the trick, suggest you look up "AWs vette" website, as he has a great vacuum trouble shooting guide and a pretty good paper regarding rebuilding the headlight actuator control valve, if that turns out to be leaking, as both of mine were.
