Default My Custom Mod C3 1972 Corvette Build ZT

Hi Guys! So ive been using Corvette Forum here and there throughout my 1972 Corvette Mod Build and its coming to a close so i figured it was time to join and share my build and all the custom mods i did to go in depth to show you guys how i came about pulling them off with as many pics as possible.

Background:
So im 18, my dad bought this car from his neighbor back in 1986 when he was 25. He totally disassembled the car because of a rotten frame and bought a newer frame off of a 1974.

It sat under a cover for over 20 years until i turned 14 and decided to tackle the project.

This has been my journey, my passion, every spare second put into building this car countless hours and blood sweat and tears.

I built my dream car and ill start at the beginning

Default The Journey begins

This is what the car looked like and how i started

This is the old rotten frame that my dad removed 20 years earlier. It was completely rotted through right in the corners before the rear arches. which is a common spot to rot through

Default The new frame uncovered

Here is the new frame that was wrapped up tightly in the backyard. Like i said its a 1974 frame which was the first year with the front and back rubber bumpers. Being a 1972 with chrome bumpers the frame was slightly different and required modifications as you'll see further along in the thread.

Being 14 your probably thinking daddy was going to build the car but that was the exact opposite. i come from a very mechanical family and this was going to be a learn as i go kind of thing and man did i learn and accomplished

Default Sneak Peak

Here's just a SNEAK PEAK of the finished car to keep you guys interested in the beginning here. This is a shot the day i painted it. It is almost done now and wait until you see what ive done to it!

Please comment and reply and tell me what you guys think so far.

I want to keep this very social and go into depth. its been a long road and i think its pretty cool what a highschool kid can do in his garage.

I build what I wanted in a dream car. And want to share and help others.
The C3 corvettes are one of the coolest cars out there and ive had fun making it my own.

This car is something totally different and i think its pretty badass but tell me what you think!

Just a Few things to look foward too:
-Completely stripped and built back up
-Race car oriented
-Completely Rewired/ simplified/ panel
-Custom racing flat dash
-Built Chevy 350
-Bird cage repairs
-Racing seats / Custom brackets/ 4- point harnesses/ harness bar
-Body Work/ Custom scoops/ repairs/ luggage rack hole fills/ Spoiler / Diffusers/
- Headlights under bumper
- Wheels/ tires
- Custom grille
-Roll bar
-SO MUCH MORE

Default What an achievement!

Zack, I'm impressed! I doubt many teenagers would have the drive, passion and skills to complete such a project. Looking forward to more updates... Oh wait, no beer for you yet.

Default Thankyou!

I've worked hard juggling school and a job to pay for parts haha it's been a huge learning experience and I've loved every Secound!

The car isn't done yet but it should be within the coming weeks! I'm going to keep this thread updated with my 4 years of building it and then do a final reviel!

Here is what the Chevy 350 looked like after I unwrapped it in the shed.. Luckily he drenched it with oil before he stored it so the internals were surprisingly healthy as I dug into it

The upload facility on this site is a bit average. Do you use photobucket? If not, here is a guide:

From the almost total lack of carbon on the pistons I would guess the engine has been rebuilt VERY recently. Like maybe 100 miles ago.

Default Engine build

Yes the engine internals were suprisingly clean and in good shape! But being it sat for almost 20 years I completed a full rebuild to have it fresh with and to put a few performance aspects as well

I did rings/ bearings/ inspected everything/ oil pump etc.
I had the heads done at the local machine shop with beefed up valves and springs/ valve seats along with an aggressive cam and some other goodies
