Default Quadrajet bolt

I can not find what thread bolt goes into the Quadrajet to hold the air filter assembly. I believe 1/4" 20 is incorrect. Thanks for the help guys.

It's been quite a while since I messed with a Q-Jet, but I'll offer this suggestion...If a 1/4-20 "almost" screws in, but seems tight, then you might need a 1/4-28 screw......but on second thought, what you really need is an air cleaner stud. Try a Mr. Gasket display at Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, etc.

Thanks, thought I saw on some sites that was not correct. Hopefully the local parts place will have something.

My 69 Quadrajet is 1/4-20. you may need to run a tap to chase the threads.

Tried a 1/4 20, it was too small. 5/16 too big. One member mentioned 1/4 16 but sure the dia still too small. Hmmmm

If the 1/4" does mot work, it sounds like the threads have been stripped out.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no 1/4-16. The only 1/4" thread pitches I'm familiar with, are -20 and -28. Thinking back, however, I seem to recall that the threads in the recess of the Q-jet don't extend all the way to the top. I'm really stretching the limits of my memory, here, but I think the "tunnel" for the air cleaner stud starts out unthreaded, and a little larger in OD than 1/4", then it "shrinks" to a 1/4" threaded hole.....

I will try the 1/4 bolt again tomorrow. I see clean threads at the top of the carb. Hope the bolt gets a bite at the bottom. So many surprise challenges restomoding this 73. Thanks for the input.

Leadfoot is correct. The threads are in the carb base, not the airhorn. Try a longer screw, or get a piece of 1/4" threaded rod from Home Depot and cut to length.

Thanks, I have a piece of all thread 12" long. Interesting that it will grab deeper in the carb. This forum is so helpful!
