Default Side pipes, no muffler, cause damage.

Just ordered the Doug's headers side pipes. Someone told me that if i use the side pipes with no mufflers it will cause to much back pressure and cause problems? Does that sound right?

No it will not cause issues, but yes it will be very loud. If you have an engine with higher compression or a big cam it will be very very loud. Stock probably not as bad but still louder than I guess you would want on the street.

Of course though, you will have to post a video for us to decide!

I've got the Blueprint 396. Believe it's 10 1/2 compression

I hope you know your local police very well. If not, you will very soon after you install that system.

It's not if, it's when.

You will probably find it annoying as well.

i bet that test drive will be a short one with those pipes turning out by the head. I'm running classic chamber insert and when you get on it it's loud.

OK. So what is the least restrictive muffler?

Sorry I can't help you with least restrictive mufflers.
I'm also running a blueprint engine but it's a 383 with 10.0:1compression.
Here's a short video of my car with classic chamber inserts.
Listen to how loud it is when I come to a stop.

While I don't have dyno results, I have run 3 different ones with my old 383 and Hooker side mounts:

- Hooker glasspacks (a step above the high-restriction reverse flows)
- Spiral Turbo Baffles
- Hooker Max Flows

Based on "seat of the pants - which is certainly subjective - The Glasspacks sounded nice but did restrict the exhaust to some degree.

The Spiral Baffles and Max Flow seemed to perform about the same, both were noticeably less restrictive.

The sound is also very different. The Spiral Baffles seemed to sound a little more "metallic" or high-pitched where the Max Flows have a deeper rumble. The baffles sound can be modified by drilling the center cap (making them louder). Mine had the cap removed.

I now am running the Max Flows with a 427 SBC - its noticeably louder than with my 383. Sounds great, but loud. The maintenance guy where I work tells me everyone knows when I get there and when I leave.

Your 396 may be about as loud depending on your choice.
