69 Corvette Road Race Inspired Build
#21
I like the extreme change that the racing C3's went threw between the early and late Cars. Love them both. Having always been paschal to the late C3's as that's what I grew up with and I am the original owner of one I have always thought new builds. Since most people either love or hate the Greenwood bodied Cars ( probably a 90 % or higher hate ratio) I have wondered what would happen if one was built one with all modern components, SRIII Frame etc. Since most Autocross events are done with modern Corvettes, it makes one wonder what people would think when one of these Greenwood cars is being unloaded as in the picture with completely unlimited Tire size combinations available !

Thanks! The car currently has a 454 big block with 781 casting iron heads and mild hydraulic roller backed by a T56 six speed and a 4.10 rear end. The suspension is stock coil spring configuration up front and the rear is a DragVette 6-link with Van Steel offset arms. I plan to leave the current mechanicals in place while I finish the car. This will be an evolving project so I may change things up down the road.

I was able to take a quick lap around the neighborhood today. I've been trying to knock some small stuff off the list before the car goes to the chassis shop next week.

Very Impressed!
Neil: You nailed it, I'm jealous as hell!
It will be hard to get the handling you want w/BB engine?
The lesser weight of a SB or even LS1 would make a big difference.
I don't think any of the Pro Touring competetion cars are using a BB are they?
Love the wheels and flares, they look factory.

You will be surprised how well it will handle with the BB after the suspension is dialed in..
Remember, BB vettes were road raced all through the 60-70s, They worked then, they'll work now, especially with the suspension technology we have now.
You could always throw aluminum heads, water pump, radiator in it and knock 100+ lbs off of it..
Neil, your car looks sick man! Tire fitment is perfect.. Great looking hot rod, no doubt it will be a blast to drive.

Here is me plowing my iron headed big block through the tail of the dragon....
"Coming in hot!"... Lol
I didn't set any records, but we had a hoot!
No doubt a modern wheel/tire package and a little more suspension work would make it pretty respectable.
The brakes on the other hand, are another story....

Very nice looking 69 for sure.
I wonder, will side pipes kill a bit of the power?
I ask because I have a 69 BB Corvette set side pipes, what I would like to mount on my 69 Coupe with SBC 427 engine.

I've always heard that side pipes hurt power but mine have 2 1/8" primaries feeding a 4" straight-through muffler. The length of the primaries might not be ideal but I really can't see how to create a more free-flowing setup on a C3. Using the wrong side pipe muffler inserts can cost big power though.

I may do a set of aluminum heads as a next phase after I get it on the road. But I'm trying not to stray too far from HSR/SVRA legal just in case I fall off the wagon.

SVRA allows aluminum heads on the BB! Aftermarket or stock. 468 max ci. That's what I'm building. And the BB cars are tough to beat in group 6. Those are the pipes I'm going to run also. However you must run 15" tires(big n sticky).

in a 1969 car the SVRA allows an all aluminum 427", those big blocks that are so tough to beat in SVRA are $50K a pop, pop.

I guess I need to take another look at the rule book! The HSR cars I saw at Daytona seemed pretty liberal with the rules too. : )

Looks Nothing like the sound of a big block at WOT screaming down a long straight at the track
