69 Corvette Road Race Inspired Build
Hey guys, I wanted to introduce my new project. I've always wanted a flared C3 Corvette that had a vintage L88 race car vibe, but I wanted to build it with a few modern twists. Ben Hermance helped me with some design ideas. Here is the direction I'm headed...

I'm still waiting in line at the chassis shop for the roll bar. I got the CCW wheels ordered and they should be here in a week or two. The Hooker headers were hitting the body and generally looking a bit tired, so I put on a new set of Doug's headers. The driver's side needed some persuasion around the Borgeson steering box and the frame rail. The passenger side went in so easy I figured I was doing it wrong. Next up is building some seat brackets for the Kirkey vintage race seats.

I had a great weekend picking up my wheels at CCW and attending the HSR Vintage 24 hour race at Daytona. There where several C3 Corvettes racing this weekend to give me inspiration.

Great thread, very motivating, since my poor car is all stagnant at the shop,
Very much where I am going with my 69 convertible, I am even going a bit more old school, and just a race inspired build not seeing any track time I am a poser.

Like with the number 6 car you posted I am going for flat black I am running black primer and running the screw on style L-88 flares and the L-88 hood, in my case the entire front clip will tilt yet the hood will remain functional,
I have an old show/roll bar and several other little things like wrap on my side pipe and lemans gas cap,
I have several sets of wheels as I can't make up my mind on them and my interior will be a mix of stock and race inspired

I see Hoosier's, I'm interested.
So this will be a legitimate track car? Why such small front tires?

It will be a street/occasional track and autocross car. I'm still finalizing how far to go with the cage. I really wanted to go with an 18x11 315 front tire combo but the Custom Image flares just don't seem to allow that much front spacing without clearancing the lower leading edge of the flare. I went with a conservative 18x10 wheel and 275-35-18 tire, but I'm sure I will be swapping rim halves and running either a 295 or 315 front tire down the road.

I like the extreme change that the racing C3's went threw between the early and late Cars. Love them both. Having always been paschal to the late C3's as that's what I grew up with and I am the original owner of one I have always thought new builds. Since most people either love or hate the Greenwood bodied Cars ( probably a 90 % or higher hate ratio) I have wondered what would happen if one was built one with all modern components, SRIII Frame etc. Since most Autocross events are done with modern Corvettes, it makes one wonder what people would think when one of these Greenwood cars is being unloaded as in the picture with completely unlimited Tire size combinations available !
