Hi Barry,
The outer track plate is seen in r's picture and the inner track plate is seen in the last picture I posted a minute ago.

LOL
And I added to the confusion by calling the seatbelt guide that brings the belts out to the door sills "giant footman loops" for lack of a better term.

I'll go get another coffee into me before making any more posts today

Im going to blame any and all misleading information on the fact I've had a 1 year old trying to steal my phone and I've already changed 2 diapers today.

Ok. Executive decision. I am going to purchase 2 of the small rectangular plates and use them as my, uh, outer rear seat track mount bolt nuts - whether or not I can find evidence of rivet holes or not. However, my aim really just mentions a hole on the outer and plates on the inner.

Not sure if this helps but this is the drivers side floorboard....I just used a large fender washer and a locknut on my rear seat mount. Be Careful about the bolt length you use on the seat belt guides on the passenger side....They just barely or maybe even rub the fuel lines if they are too long.

Hi B,
The plot thickens…. W's picture shows that things changed when the outer seat belt gained it's reel and therefore a new mount for the 72 model year.
Confusion reigned due to us not knowing what part, or what car, we were talking about! And also talking about a car I'm not actually familiar proves to be dangerous once AGAIN!
Regards,
Alan

The thought of a 1 year old is just plain scary at my advanced age!

Hard to believe but that would appear to be correct. Not sure why the addition of seat retractors would justify changing the outside corners reinforcements but it obviously did.

Barry, I know you said the frame was changed but it still looks like you've got the right piece sandwiched in there.
I'd forgo trying to add the riveted on plates and just re-tap to the next size, If you add those plates you'll have to rivet them on somehow to hold them when tightening the seat tracks and it doesn't sound like you have access with the different frame.

Update. Got a 3/8 (next size up) tap and it seems to have worked on the driver side. Didn't get a lot of resistance but I did have to use a ratchet to turn the tap. Bolt tightened up ok. Passenger side I was able to turn the tap by hand and then the bolt just about fell into the hole by itself. So it's either try 2 sizes up and see if it still even fits through the hole in the seat track or just use a nut plate.

Not sure if this is any help, but I took some random shots underneath my '72 earlier this year and found these:

I'm still using the nut plate on the side that the hole was too big. Other than not being riveted to the floor it's the same set up as previous years.

I came up with another idea as well????? We'll see. We had a thing called a nutcert that we used when I was on the ships doing installs.

I use what are called 'riv-nuts'. But if a nutcert is the same. I 'Googled' it and it looks about the same. I would be afraid that because it is being compressed to fiberglass...it could possibly spin. But what do I know.

I watched a YouTube video. If I tried that I'd put a nice washer on both sides to catch the rivet, but then you've got evidence underneath just like I do now with a nut plate. So the benefit is you could use matching nuts?

And the tool isn't cheap.

But I like the idea.

Rivnuts are a great idea and have numerous uses where they are the best thing going for a good solid method of being able to bolt on a part. But in this scenario...I would make what we talked about and can call it done.

Here's a few pics of the birdcage for '72-'74. I think the rear outside seat mount screws into the bracket hanging off the birdcage.

Sorry I didn't see this thread a year ago. My bracket is rotted away on the drivers side on my '73. Did some research and finally figured out what was missing.

Here's a couple pics of the complete bird cage.
