Color matching paint that old to just do the bumpers is a job I wouldn't want.it will need a clutch and lots of other things. 6500 is maybe slightly high but if the car has good bones it may not be out of line. Convertible and 4 speed do help. Would have been a nice car with an L-82.. if you get into it and you have serious problems the extra thousand bucks isn't really that big a deal.
Cars been sitting for two years, he's a friend, go there with 6k cash, that should make everyone happy.
Good luck

Well it's my car now!! Lol. $6300. And I checked the bird cage as good as I could, didn't see any rust or rot! I'm happy with the buy!! Time to get to work!! Talked to a local body shop in town, color match the bumpers and install $900-1200 going to order a clutch tonight. And start looking for a rear bumper.
Any suggestions on clutch? Or where to buy my rear bumper?

I finished restored my mustang last summer. Took a long time and cost way more then I wanted to spend, but in the end she turned out just how I wanted it.

Good deal on the 74. I bought one a couple of years ago and almost finished with the restoration. Mine was in worse shape than what I see with yours. I paid $4500. for mine and am doing all the work on it myself. I am loving the restoration and I am on a very tight budget. Good luck with your build.

Good deal. If you are happy with it then it is a good deal. One question is why do you say the clutch is bad. I would drive it a little and see if it is really bad. From sitting it may be sticking. Put a couple of miles on it before buying a clutch. If it does need one and the motor is stock you don't need anything fancy.
Good luck with the project and ask away on questions. Just don't get bogged down in the while your at it syndrome. Before you know it the body will be off the chassis.

Thanks for all the info. I'm excited to get this car up and going for the summer.
Little mouse, I'm not crazy about the split rear bumper, but since its only a 74 thing I'll go back to putting the orignal style back on.
I do want to lower the corvette 1.5-2 inches all the way around. If any one has any suggestions on the best way to do that please let me know.
Should I use 8 bolts or 10 bolts? Where to buy? And what front springs?

Looks like a good deal for a 74 convertible...not an L-82 but at least a 4 speed. I would keep that split rear bumper...makes the car unique for a C3.
In terms of lowering the bolts will solve the issues for the rear. I would get a 300 Lb composite to replace the rear steel spring since it will ride so MUCH BETTER and saves weight. Folks have height issues with the TRW composite but seem to have good luck with the VBP composite. For front coils since you probably do not have the sport suspension, The replacement is the 460lbs coils but you will have to cut a coil to achieve the lowered height you desire before install or you can cut the current coils.

I would pass as for your budget you can a much better C3 in the 76 and up years. The 74 is the first of the 5 MPH fenders. Regardless everyone on this forum is giving you good advice. Check the FRAME and BIRDCAGE that is extremely important as if they show server rust or holes your going to have to pony up and get a NOS frame or after market. With your budget you can get a really nice later model C3.

I think you did Very good, it looks like a nice car that you can make much better.
I was happy with the flex fit bumpers. Out of the box they need work and a lot of on/off the car to get the fit the best possible. If you want a real nice finished product, it may be best if you spent the time doing the prep work and fitting prior to bringing it to the body shop. If the shop has not done these before he may be quoting to low because of the labor to get them right. If you want to keep it original looking go with the 2 piece not the one piece with the molded seam. Since the color match is the most important thing I had a restoration shop paint the rear and I did the front with the left over paint. Here is the original bumper on my former '74 before it fell apart and then the flex fit.
