TKO 600 shifter rattle
A couple of years ago I swapped out my automatic for a TKO 600 5 speed. Overall, its been great, except for one thing. My shifter rattles. A Google search reveals that this is a pretty common problem. I contacted Modern Driveline who supplied the transmission, but they pretty much told me I'm crazy and the shifter can't possible rattle. I've checked everything nearby, and there's no doubt. Its the shifter. I don't have vibration. The car is as smooth as its ever been, but the shifter rattles. I discussed this on this Forum before, but thought I'd ask again. Has anyone come up with a solution for noisy TKO shifters?

Mine does as well, seems like it has to do with the reverse lock out because when i grab it the noise stops. Was thinking of trying some different weight springs in the handle to see if it makes any difference.
I have a dial on the radio that can be turned and that will also get rid of the noise!

Mines doing the same thing. I don't think my issue is the reverse lock outlever though. I've gotten the car at the specific RPM where I hear the mostshake and I've held the lock out and it still shakes. When I put a bit of downward (pull) pressure on the shift **** it stops. I called SST and they sentme out a new shift assembly free. It's being installed this week I hope it fixes the problem because it's pretty annoying.

The one in my GTO does too I just live with it
May I should install the original Hurst shift lever?

Mine has always rattled a little too, although only in third gear. The noise goes away if I just lay my hand lightly on the shifter ****. I once tried unscrewing the shifter ball from the lever and it didn't rattle anymore...

You need a new shifter and related hardware. Comes as a one piece unit and it fixes the problem. What you have to do is contact the vendor that sold you the transmission in the first, they will be well aware of the problem and should send you out one for free.

Same here, see that B&M t-handle in my avatar. Its long gone! Could not get the rattle out of it and went back to a ball handle that feels better anyway. The t was a bit of an experiment, and I did not like it.
Guess its time to take a new photo huh?

I realize this is a pretty old thread, but I think I've solved my shifter rattle problem, and thought I should pass on my solution.
Last winter while I was swapping out my engine, I thought it would be a good time to take another shot at fixing the rattling shifter on my TKO 600. I called Modern Driveline again, but this time I insisted on talking to Bruce Couture himself. He was great but couldn't understand why my shifter would rattle until I told him I had made an adapter to reposition the shifter. Turns out they sent me a shifter for a C2, probably because they hadn't yet developed their C3 shifter handle. He said he had seen one other case where changing the weight of the shifter shaft and/or handle solved the rattling problem. He sent me a replacement handle at no charge, and went to great lengths to make sure I was comfortable swapping the handle myself.
Long story short (I know, too late) I drove the car today, and so far no more rattle. Apparently the added weight of the adapter was enough to set up the harmonics that caused the rattle.

I always had the tko handle buzz at some cruise speed. Maybe not what you are talking about
but the cure is an @2.5 degree angle on the drive shaft

Here's the adapter I fabricated next to the C3 shifter they sent me to replace it. Its easy to see the adapter represents a pretty significant increase in weight and a big change to the balance.

yes it will rattle... but why? what is setting up the vibration??
Look above for answer... AND make sure every nut and bolt in the drive train and related parts are locked down tight.
