Is the shifter hitting the side or the front of the console opening?

Hello, the shifter is hitting the side of the console,it started after I did a complete frame off restoration, and when we put the new motor mounts on the engine back in the car we noticed the engine was higher on one side,so we checked the mounts and one mount is a locking mount and the other mount is a non locking mount and the locking mount is thicker than the other mount.
Thanks again

Hi 69,
Welcome! Restored 69!! NICE!!!
Since the bracket that the shifter assembly is attached to the frame and not the transmission I'm not sure that the motor mount can can contribute to the situation you're seeing.
I want to think the body is back on the frame straight since that's what positions the opening in the transmission tunnel over the shifter.
I'm thinking (hoping) that the transmission console and it's trim plate MIGHT not be in quite the right location.
Have you loosened up the screws which position the console to see if that might help?
It's quite easy to not get the e-brake console and shifter console in not quite the right place.
Regards,
Alan

Default Imho, ...

IMHO, I would try shimming the 4sp shifter support with washers to get the shift stick centered. My 76 was hitting the front of the shifter console in reverse and I shimmed the shifter support to move it a little. I want to say the 76 AIM showed washers here too. Agree, the shifter support is attached to the frame crossmember if all factory.

I know yours is a different year and hitting differently, but I would try shimming the shifter support to move it over.

Hope this might help.
