What is it with that Vacuum Switch Inside the Air Cleaner?
Why on earth can't I find a replacement for the temperature sensitive vacuum switch inside the air cleaner of millions upon millions of GM vehicles through to the 90s?
The dual snorkel intake in my '79 L82 looks and works great except for that cursed switch.
The one in it when I got the car about two years ago was a total failure and would never hold vacuum. After calls and calls and calls I managed to find one (not the exact) from an area salvage yard. I verified that it worked but it has now failed in the same way--complete vacuum leak at all temperatures. UGGGHHH!
It really did help with cold weather starts. I find it amazing that I can't find a replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any suggestions?

Burning Brakes
Interesting enough, when I was replacing all of my vacuum hoses, I found a large BB inserted in the hose where it attached to this vacuum/temperature switch. The hose was connected to the switch, but I noticed the bulge where the BB was installed, it appeared to have been installed decades ago.
I replaced the switch and hoses but did not notice any difference. It was starting/running just as well before I touched it. Thought I would just pass this along since the switch is so expensive.
