Transistor Ignition Distributor Parts Mixup
I have a1968 ti distributor original to the car. And I have another date coded for 1971. 25+ years ago I switched some of the parts and now I want the correct pieces for a 68. Both have the same part number tag 1111294. One housing has casting #722, the other #230. One has a round magnet, the other has a magnet with protrusions around the bolts. What goes with what?
Also I have a new gear to install. Since it has an odd number of teeth I see it must be indexed. I assume the dot on the gear must line up with the round hole or square hole where the rotor attaches?
I'm sure there is an expert out there.
Thanks,
Terry

Terry,
Are you trying to identify the housing?
I believe you might be able to tell the difference by examining the distributor's 'neck' carefully .
Housings after mid 1970 have a small hole drilled in the 'boss' opposite the tach drive.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

the dot on the gear should be aligned with the outer rotor contact. In other words if the rotor is pointing to #1 cylinder the dot will also be pointing to #1 cylinder.
