Default Need Help Engine barely cranks even with new battery

My son had his 79 corvette towed home(he is away at college)
The engine won't start. It will only crank a few times before the battery acts dead. Turns over very slowly. He put in a new battery but that didn't help. I cleaned up the connection where the cable connects to the frame, but no change. I even put the battery from my truck in it while his battery is charging but still no change. I was hopping it was a bad connection or weak battery but I kinda ruled them out at this point.
Any ideas? What should we check next? The starter is only a few months old, but I don't think that's the problem. It acts like a dead battery. Thanks for the help.

What can you tell us about the starter? Is it an original type or a mini?

What about the ground from the engine block to the frame?

The car has a stock type starter. I have not checked the block to frame connection. Where exactly is that one located. Years ago my nephew had a car that wouldn't start and I added a ground from the alternator bracket to the frame and that fixed it. I need to find this jumper wire and check it.

Thank you everyone! I added a new Block to Frame grd. jumper and it starts like a champ!! I drilled and tapped the frame so I believe this fix will last.
This is a great forum since members here actually really offer real ideas that help.
Thanks again!
