Stock 67 thru 72 Vette open element air filters
Does anyone know if the stock open element air cleaner filters on the 1967 thru 1972 Vettes are all the same size in height. I have a 1972 LT1 air cleaner I am trying to use on my 454 Big Block that I installed the Holley Commander 950 Multi Point Fuel Injection system on. I have an L88 hood minus the cold air box so I have better hood clearance BUT still need 1/2" or more. The problem is the Air filter ( stock LT1 ) is 3" tall. If I could find the same air filter but not as tall it would work just great. Even 1/2" to 1" shorter would do the trick.

Hi v,
I think 68-72 open air cleaners (single carb) used the AC 212 C filter. 14"x3".
I believe Summit shows 14" diameter paper filters in various heights from 2"-3".
Perhaps you can find what you need there.
Regards,
Alan

Air Filters at Summit
I looked at Summit. They do show an AC212C. I did not see any where where the size was 2". The only one I saw was 3".

Hi Al,
Sorry.
I didn't mean to imply that you would buy a 212 replacement. I posted that to answer your question as to whether the typical original filter was 3". It was.
Summit appears to offer various 14" diameter filters that will look more or less original in heights less than 3"

Alan

Thanks all and comments
twinray? Could you give me a few more details and pictures if you have some about the ZZ4 you installed. I'm kinda new to the ZZ line of engines and wonder how well it adapts ( replaces ) the stock factory small block ?
I have a crate motor in the 72 Vette I recently inherited. I was led to believe it is a GM Crate motor ( and it might be ) however the stamping on the front exactly where GM stamps them with the stamping 14 E 11353 Does anyone have any idea who the engine manufacturer of this might be ?

I have the zz4 intake on my 69 sbc.
With the stock drop base air cleaner and qjet I run a 3 1/2" air filter with a small block hood.
If got rid of the thick carb base gasket a 4" filter would fit.

Well I picked up a Purolator A60102 at Advance Auto Parts. With my Military discount it was about $10. Fits perfectly. It is 2.5" tall and solved my problem. Thank you all for your input and time to help.

I don't have the stock drop base assembly which constitutes my problem now that you mention it.

Color
I love the Targa Blue. I also love the Bryar Blue. If you ever get a chance to do this --- Park your 72 Targa Blue Vette next to a Bryar Blue 72 Vette. The colors really CLASH a lot. My 72 Bryar Blue came with the Blue interior that was used in the Targa Blue Vettes. It never was offered as a ( New car ) optional interior color at first for the Bryar Blue Vettes BUT they did offer it as time went on. They really do not match.

I always loved both colors.
When my friend parks his 67 Marina Blue next to mine the Targa Blue takes on a Purple tone, Kind of looks cool.
If I knew now .. when I purchased the car there was a Steel Cities 71 also on consignment - bare car no options - I would have bought it as I love that color also. It had a 4 speed & 4:11 rear that is why I passed. (the 4:11 rear)
My 72 is loaded all options except the rear window defogger.
Thanks
