The 3M glue is god stuff. But it doesn't work for headliners over time due to the heat that can build up under the roof of a car, so I would say no, it probably won't work in the long term either.
I'm sure there is a glue that can tolerate the high heat situation under the hood. Certainly a gasketing type of silicone glue would tolerate the heat, but may a be a pain to apply to a large area. Mechanically attaching it may be the best way to go if the product you use is somewhat rigid.
