Default 1979 Diff Cover

Hey so my diff cover (pictured below) is leaking pretty good and has the front left spring bolt broken off in the threaded hole, so I decided to replace the diff cover to kill two bird with one stone. A member on here offered to sell me his diff cover which has the #464910 on it. I went out to check my diff cover and i can't quite read it, but it definitely doesn't say "464910" even though he's pretty sure it's for a 78-79 vette.

Can anyone tell me if his diff cover will work on my diff?

The 464910 is the cast number for the 78-79 cover (I'm also trying to sell one but up here in Canada)

Check the width of your spring as that was the real difference from the earlier style, spring bolts were also smaller IIRC, 2-1/4" wide with 9/16" bolts for the 68-77, 2-1/2" wide for the 78-79 with 7/16" bolts

slightly incorrect, the narrow (pre 78) 2-1/4 spring takes 9/16 bolts, correct that the 2-1/2 spring takes 7/16 bolts

Here is a couple pictures of my cover. Interesting the number stamp doesn't appear to be in the same place as the one above.

Ok so as long as my spring size is correct for this diff cover I should be fine right?

Also I presume there is a gasket between the diff cover and diff (what appears to be leaking on my diff), where can I go about buying a replacement?

Thanks for the help!

I bought a gasket for my 69, which was apparently optional, at a normal local parts star.
