Default AC Expansion Valve replacement question

I am going through the non working AC. It was not working the day I bought the car. I bought a NEW Expansion Valve and upgraded POA. The new Expansion valve is a bit different than the original. It has a pig tail coil instead of a long flat bar (Pic below). The original bar attached to the aluminum tubing via 2 clamps. Where should this pigtail coil go? Should I just attach it to the same place using the clamps? Because of its location should it go inside the box not on the outside?

Thanks in advance for your input.

You have the wrong expansion valve for your car.

That is how they come nowadays.
The pigtail serves the same function as the original "flat bar" it's essentially the bulb that contains the oil that makes the expansion valve work.
Clamp it to the same spot the original was located. Be sure to cover it with the original style insulating pucky.
It's function (the bulb)is to sense the temp of the out put of the evaporator and meter the freon thru the expansion Valve

Default AC expansion Valve

Thank you AZmotorhead.

Just to be on the safe side I did a little research on the valve today.

I checked the following sites:
Willcox Corvette $63.85 Part 36721
Zip-Corvette $51.50 AH-236
Ecklers corvette $51.29 25-102231-1
Corvette Central $44.95 452235

Every site shows the same valve with the pigtail for my 1970 corvette. The "bar type" valve is no longer available. AZmotorhead stated that the pigtail is the replacement now and he is correct.

Thanks for the correction. I wonder if NAPA still sells the bulb type, part number TEM207300. The last one I bought for my '71 was like the original.
